Friday Five 17-June

1. Do you like smiling?
I think smiling is the easiest facial expression I can contort my face into and not raise too many questions. I greet people wordlessly with a nod and a smile or a grin, when I hurt myself (say I fall, kick something without meaning to, cut myself and then pour hydrogen peroxide on the wound), my default reaction is smiling/laughing. It wouldn't hurt less if I cry, so I might as well just laugh.

2. Would you call yourself a happy or solemn individual?
I'm pretty solemn actually, despite my seemingly happy disposition. I think it comes with being brought up at a school run by nuns.

3. What was that last thing that made you smile or laugh?
The dog. Wake up sleepy head!!

4. Do you believe that laughter is the best medicine?
Well yeah, I think I've somehow touched on this in question #1. Since nothing potentially life-threatening has happened to me (thank god for that and hopefully I'm not jinxing myself), so I don't know about such situations, but in most non-life-threatening situations where I hurt myself (like banging my head somewhere - and it sure damn well hurts), I laugh and make fun of myself. If I cry, it's not going to hurt less, and there might be a bully here or there who sees that and uses the incident to taunt me. So? Just laugh it off. Let people think I'm crazy for laughing at being cut by the door handle or whatever.

5. Are you smiling now?
I actually have a "resting bitch face" and I start to frown at any little thing. Sun getting in my face? Fround. Reading a book? Frown. Concentrating on writing this post? Frown. So no, I'm actually not smiling now. But the dog just looked at me and I just have to smile at him *griiiiiinnn*

I'm glad the dog made you smile at least, although "resting bitch face" made me laugh.

I also tend to laugh when I hurt myself, I can't help it, it just happens automatically. Sometimes people think I'm weird, but I think it's a better response than crying or brooding.
