Game: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy
After I went to that Distant Worlds concert in Macau, I felt the sudden rush of all Final Fantasy hoo-haas, so I went to the app store to see what they've got. I know I had previously bought the FF1 and FF2 iOS games (then got stuck somewhere again and forgot about it), and thought I could start playing again.
Instead, I found this!
This is a music rhythm game, much like the Taiko-style tap/hit according to the beat. In truth, it's just a money-sucking ploy (my opinion)... because...
You start with only 2 music pieces: Zanarkand and One-Winged Angel.
You are, as always, more than welcome to buy more tunes. Characters too, I think you get basically one character of each Final Fantasy by default, but you can buy other characters too. Characters have different stats and characteristics.
I've built another team since then since this line up (above) sucks. LOL.
The music pieces are categorized as FMS and BMS. FMS play is like a continuous sliding thing. If you miss, then your character trips, and switches out to the next character you have lined up. Zanarkand is the default piece here, so I guess all FMS are slow-paced pieces. BMS play is more like the Taiko-game thing. If you miss a beat then you lose HP and miss an attack. It sounds as if FMS would be easier than BMS, but with these rhythm games, the music piece cannot be too slow. I actually find the BMS a lot easier.
I got turned into a Chocobo! LOL (FMS play only) I don't know why sometimes I get turned into a black Chocobo and sometimes a white one though. I wonder if it has a direct relation to how you are performing.
And of course you get rated for your play. The music pieces come in Basic Score, Expert Score, and Ultimate Score. I've only played up till Expert, so I have no idea how crazy Ultimate will be.
You get to choose the level of play (presented as "quests") and you can collect collectible cards or song fragments (I guess that means a different set of rhythm beats to play to)
Another time waster game, it's good to have to kill time (because honestly, if all you are playing are the 2 default songs, you'd get bored very very soon), like to slip in while waiting for something (I don't know, bank queue? doctor appointment?) I suppose as long as I don't splurge and buy a new music piece then it should be good.

What I really like from the FF series are the Chocobos. I got the NDS Chocobo tales game and although it can be a bit tedious, I like it. I also have a Chocobo dungeon crawler on the Wii but that hasn't stuck on me much.
Although my absolute favourite is the Seiken Densetsu/Secret of Mana series which I read somewhere saying it's actually the predecessor of the FF series (Seiken 1 was the basis of the FFs that are out there, or something like that)
This turned long-winded! Haha

I've played a few FF games and like music from a couple of them.

I have both Theatrhythm games for the Nintendo 3DS. You don't have to buy extra content with them but I don't know if you have those consoles. They are fun and I do love the music of course.

(besides the battle piece from FF6 is not in the list so I don't have any urge to go buy any extra pieces)
