The Friday Five 13-July

1) If you could be either a fish or a bird, which would you be, and why?
Normally I’d say bird, as flying represents being free and all that. This time though, I’m thinking fish. Underwater can be free as well!

2) Would you rather it be 10 degrees too hot or 10 degrees too cold? (Does your answer change if that’s indoors or outdoors?)
I suppose with Celsius this “10 degrees” would mean a slightly more extreme difference (10 degrees up and down Celsius comes to roughly 20 degrees up and down Fahrenheit). Whichever the case, I’d rather it to be too cold than hot. You can always dress up but if it’s too hot you can’t strip more than nude and I’m assuming I’m not allowed air con here.

3) What is the best thing that happened to you today?
It’s saturday morning here, but I’ll recount yesterday’s high point: shopping!

4) Is youth wasted on the young? (Follow-up: are you old or young?)
Well, the young tend to make stupid choices in their youth, but that’s how they grow. So no use getting jealous. As for me, I know people say 35 is still young but I feel physically old, with my joint pains and all that.

5) Pasta salad or potato salad?
I remember reading somewhere that when people get upset stomachs, it’s not the mayonnaijjse, it’s the onion and potatoes (something about these items absorbing bacteria, don’t remember the full details). Since then, I’ve religiously avoided raw onions and potatoes together.

What it actually is, is that when potatoes are cooked for potato salads, people tend to let them cool improperly, which means they might spend too long in the danger zone. Like, they'll cook 'em up and let them sit on the counter forever. But yeah I used to think that too, that the eggs or mayo was the issue, but no if there's gonna be problems it'll be the potatoes lol.

Really? I've never heard that. The raw eggs in mayo is usually a trigger, unless you are using store bought. That's interesting. I will have to ask my chef friend about that.
