Not quite ADIML

Not quite an A Day In My Life, but it's more or less, coz it's photo heavy!

It's actually my sister's ([livejournal.com profile] kikakat) birthday, but why am I tagging her, she's already abandoned her LJ. Anyway, I had plans to go get a manicure today, but Mom suddenly sprung on me the idea to go have lunch with my Sis. Tough. My manicure is at 11am, and will most likely finish at 1pm. My Sis' lunch hours are 1pm-2pm, so I'm never gonna make it. Mom told me to tell the lady to "do it faster" *rolls eyes*. Let me ignore this in-house Karen.

I took the chance to take some more Paper Shoot photos. This time I used the Wide-angle lens, and I think I figured the lens placement. The black corner is a bit better than the ones from the Fisheye lens. I'll try more later and see if I can figure out the optimal lens placement.

Typical February/March weather. Foggy! The weather board thingie read 97% relative humidity today. It's HUMID! On the left photo, my work building is essentially missing because of the fog LOL. On the right photo, it's the St. Lawrence Church.

First stop for me was Starbucks, because I had a free drink that would expire some time in March. So I thought I'd just use it up first. Didn't feel like any of the new drinks they had for the season, so I got myself a good old Hojicha Latte.

A bit of a lens comparison. On the left is without any external lens. On the right is with the Wide Angle lens. As you can see, on the left top and left bottom corner of the photo you see some black shading, that's the lens placement.

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, I have the same photo, but taken with my phone, and I tweaked the saturation, for your enjoyment. This is the Senado Square, also commonly known as "The Fountain" in Chinese 噴水池 (as if there are no other fountains in Macau). They now use this square to build a lot of attractions during Christmas, Chinese New Year and such, that the fountain itself is usually hidden from view. It's a rare sight to actually see the fountain out in the open these days. Even though there are no water works, it's still called The Fountain.

I make my way to my new manicure place. I've become an avid fan of this place. They don't force me to buy a package, they have a lot of nail designs to choose from, and the lady strikes just the right amount of chatting. It's located up the hill and as I walk up, there's this Chinese Temple. I suppose in English this is the Na Tcha (Old) Temple. I had to add the old because if I just search the Na Tcha temple, it shows the one next to the Ruins of St. Paul. And on this particular one it does say "old temple" on the sign.

I wanted to do a dark tone set that I saw on their facebook, amber stone colors alternating with black. But I though, it's Spring, maybe I should do something lighter. I'll leave the dark colors for the next winter. So, my new shiny nails!

As I thought, my manicure was done at a little after 1pm. It was too late to go to Coloane anyway. So I went to hunt for lunch. Let me think, why did I take this picture? I think it had something to do with the street names. But I can't even read that on this photo LOL, so I don't know what to say now.... LOL

I used the Paper Shoot camera to shoot a photo of my lunch but it did not come out well (the framing is all off). So this photo was taken with my phone. This place is called Dumpling Town but the Chinese name is very cute. The proper name is 餃餃鎮 which means "Dumpling Town" as its English name is, but the sound of 餃餃鎮 in Cantonese is synonymous to the same pronunciation as 搞搞震, and it's a term to say "to cause trouble", "up to no good", "naughty", and such. I ordered a vegan pasta thing 三色麻油粉皮 so a tri-color (basically carrot "red", some other "green" thing and the pasta "white") with sesame oil. Yummy. And I felt like having a fried dumpling and not a steamed one, and there were no vegan options for fried dumplings... so I got a 韭菜鍋貼 Chinese Chive fried dumpling? It has pork in it.

After lunch I walk around town just to check out the shops. Sadly, the crafts shop I wanted to go to check out different types of wool and yarn wasn't opened. There's a sign saying closed Wednesdays, but it's a Saturday, and it's closed. Meh. The photo on the left is the Portuguese Consulate of Macau. On the right is a random street shot.

It's a rainy and dreary day, so an umbrella is a must. Sneakers too, as I have mentioned before, these mosaic roads are SLIPPERY WHEN WET!

PTDC0172.JPG

I needed to pee to I went to a public toilet and just outside they had this... huge... wall-vase? That held some pretty bush... tree... whatever.

PTDC0173.JPG

This is the "Three-Lantern" area 三盞燈 because, it was a square of sorts with a lonely lamp post that had 3 bulbs on it, thus "Three-Lantern" area. This lamp post you see has 4 baubles though, but it doesn't matter, this is still the Three-Lantern. The name won't change.

PTDC0175.JPG

I eventually went the same way back to my part of town. The rain didn't pour, but really, it's no fun to walk in such light drizzle that it doesn't seem worth it to open the umbrella, yet you can still get very wet, but oh well!

PTDC0176.JPG

And this is the angst of using point and shoot cameras. I had worried, when I just took it, wondering if I got the entire facade of the St. Domingos Church. But then I though, I should be far enough. But then I came home, popped the SD card into the reader, and saw that, no, I did not get the entire facade *rolls eyes*. First world problems, I guess I got too used to mobile phones or digital cameras that can preview the photos immediately.

And I hope you enjoyed these random sights and my ramblings about certain landmarks!
