(New?) Hobby: Soap Making

I mentioned in a previous post that I went for another soap making class with my Sis and my cousin. We learnt to make the roseremi pattern soap.

It was fun to think about colors and choosing the stencil. It seems I made a good choice with my stencil choice and the colours I chose... I have... RESULTS! The overall theory is, you place a stencil on the bottom of a cylindrical container, with lines attaching so you can pull it out. After you've beaten up the soap and chosen the colours you use, you start to pour in the coloured soap in whatever sequence you like. I didn't shoot a photo of the cylinder and you can guess from the photos above and below, I kept the same colour sequence throughout. In the end, you pull out the stencil and let the tube just sit for a week to harden.

The soap had to be left to dry out for a week, and today we went to slice them out. It had to be 1 week because if we waited too long, then the soap would have hardened to much and it will be difficult to slice. It was magical, as you sliced each piece, you see the patterns come out. The lady taught us to slice thinner pieces, because this way we get to see more variation of our patterns. Look how pretty they are! I think some pieces look like nice grapefruits LOL!

There's actually more but we chose the most neatly come out patterns for photo shooting. The following are some close ups of my soap.

I don't know why the lady put a house in the middle. Maybe my batch had too many nice patterns come out so there were too many pieces and she had to put something in the middle to even out the colour tone of the photo.

My favourite would be the bottom 2 in this photo. Very nicely done and the colours all came out evenly.

All our soaps, my Sis and my Cousin's now nicely placed to dry out. We'll get them back in a month when it's properly dried. Then we'll go back to vacuum pack them.

These are my Sis' soap design. She used a green and blue combination.

I was busy slicing my soaps when it was my Cousin's turn to take photos of her soaps, so I didn't take any from hers. I did catch one of her slicing it... and I'm using the teacher lady's photo, so it's not my usual square format haha... My Cousin wanted a more purple colour, and in powder form the colour was really sharp, but once mixed with the soap base it turned grey. I guess because the soap base is yellow so cancelled out her purple and it turned grey.

The lady is trying to sell us to take a certificate course and I'm on the fence about it. It would be fun, it would be something new, and I can boast an extra (related to nothing I do) certificate LOL. But I'm hesitant as then there's quite a bit of theory to study and I'm just too lazy to try to read dry texts in Chinese. Will think about it. Might think about going for a shampoo soap class... and if she opens a flower design soap class I might go for it too.
