She's not your average crime fighter! Meet Ivy Malone, an inconspicuous older woman who has a mutant curiosity gene that often lands her in trouble. Unlike most women her age, she snoops and pries her gray-haired self into one hilarious escapade after another. So when vandals romp through the local cemetery, Ivy can't help but put her snooping eyes to work as she launches her own unofficial investigation. Despite her unconventional sleuthing, Ivy soon becomes discouraged by her failure to turn up any solid clues. And after Ivy witnesses something ominous and unexplained, she can't resist putting her investigative powers to work again. Even the authorities' attempts to keep her out of danger and her nosy neighbor's match-making schemes can't slow Ivy down. But will the determination that fuels this persistent, spunky sleuth threaten her very safety? "I laughed out loud. McCourtney's charming mystery debuts a voice both enchanting and startling."-Colleen Coble, author of Without a Trace "McCourtney's skill at blending whimsy, quirks, and questions into a lead character makes Invisible a must read."-Lois Richer, author of Dangerous Sanctuary "Invisible is a treat! Ivy Malone is a heroine with spunk and determination!"-Carol Cox, author of A Stitch in TimeI was thinking this would be a somehow boring read, but this turned out to be really interesting, despite the heroine not being of my age at all. It was cutely hilarious and made me think about what I would be doing when I grow old in the future.
It was all a little sad to read about Ivy not having much of a family left (husband and son died, sister died, only niece & family left)... and then when her friend Thea went too it really tugged some heartstrings inside. The title "Invisible" refers to LOLs (little old lady) being ignored (and so, seemingly invisible) but then it doesn't revolve much around this ability of being invisible.
Ivy's character is quite well described, and I simply love her witty commentaries on things that are happening. The chicken on the gravestone was quite an amusing interpretation... as well as the tombstone that looks like the Bug (Volkswagon Bug). I also liked how she would think of "voices in her head" and how she "shouldn't follow their advice" as that's the first sign that she's turning "senile", and thus she simply just marches on ahead to whatever she's planned to do.
In the end, there were still some unanswered mysteries (or did I miss a memo somewhere?) and it ended off quite well, despite it being somewhat unbelievable. I'm hoping to read book #2 soon... I'm just waiting to see if there's a chance for the Kindle edition to go free one day or not :D I'm giving this a 4 out of 5 :D
