Life updates
Tuesday, 24 April 2018 22:16A bit of general life updates:
- I’ve got a trip to Osaka (Kyoto, really) planned for June, though I haven’t applied for leave time with my boss yet.
- My leave time for my Portugal trip in September got approved. So some serious planning will be going on soon?
- I’m starting to get the hang of my new position. Paperwork is pretty straightforward and so far only, from what I could feel/tell, only 1 person has been trying to get me into trouble.
- I’ll need to really learn Mandarin in earnest as my boss gets invited to be so-and-so “club/group/organisation director” from China, and all those guys speak Mandarin... duh I had to deal with a guy last week and we had 2 telephone conversations. It was pretty one way, since although I didn’t understand him 100%, I still got maybe 40% of what he wanted. Nothing that can’t be fixed by sending him a written note summarising his speech. Aaaand, they use Simplified Chinese? No, I’m not learning that. Traditional Chinese till the day I die!
- I may have been quiet here but I’ve been pretty consistent with my Hobonichi journal. This month’s challenge is flowers and it’s killing me (I can’t draw flowers for saving my life) but I’m slowly putting “faces” to many of the flower names I know of but never seen.
- I’ve also been pretty good with my yoga and Pilates sessions. I do think I’ve improved my flexibility a bit. However I haven’t been as religious with my running due to weather and sometimes being just plain tired after a long day. Must. Run. Tomorrow!
- I’m slowly picking up on my reading too! Being the “newbie” in the office has given me a lot of reading time: people don’t ask me out for lunch, so I get to eat and read. Just me being really antisocial. I know I should put an effort to get to know people.
I’d go as far to say life is good for now. Hope I don’t jinx it!
