Happy Mid Autumn Festival
Sunday, 11 September 2022 11:58I got inundated with images, videos, and stickers of the variety as shown here below. I'm nice, I'm only sharing this one :-)
Once upon a time, I would have been able to tell you the story about Mid Autumn Festival, but I've promptly forgotten it all. Something about shooting the sun down, and for some reason there's some rabbit involved, and there's another of an old man chopping a tree on the moon. As a kid, teachers and adults, I think my mom too, told me if you look at the moon hard enough, you see the shadow of a man chopping a tree. Honestly, I do see the shadow, but it's just a blob. I see no man chopping no tree.
While we went dog walking, the sky was still clear and the round moon was out. I thought, "I'd just take a photo of the moon at home!" Back home though, the sky got overcast. WTF. Sorry. No moon to show you.
Instead, you can see the moon in the mooncake. I usually don't mind egg yolks and salted eggs, but I don't know why I never liked the egg yolk in a mooncake. It's a lot more dry and flakey and just... no thanks. I usually only have the corner of the mooncake that has no egg on it.
Then I dunno why but Mom served this horn-look-alike thing. Apparently these are a kind of chestnut? I'm reading it's called water chestnut?? But, what I know as water chestnut is something called 馬蹄 but this horned chestnut is called 菱角.....? Confused, but... doesn't really matter. I'm fine with regular chestnut, I don't like the chinese water chestnut, and I've tried this horned chestnut and I don't like it either.
I mentioned my friend's cake shop had Mid Autumn goods as well and this is it. She made cookies this year. It was a good idea, I think. Everyone's getting mooncake and are probably fed up with mooncakes. She's also rather undercharged it. The box is filled to the brim with cookies!
I thought it was a good idea because for parents with kids, they can like, I dunno, play build-a-scene before eating the cookies. I, of course, have no artistic eye so just a random thing of putting the cookies together LOL.
We had an early night though, Dad's not feeling quite well so everyone just turned in early last night.
