1. When did you last have something custom-made to your specifications, not counting meals?
There's that roast suckling pig fondant cake I ordered for my bestie's birthday this year. Other than that... what else did I have custom made? I think I also ordered a phone case from Taobao with some specific writing on it, but when it arrived the material of the case itself didn't really catch on me so I never used it.
2. In what way were you reminded this week that we’ve been experiencing a pandemic for nearly three years?
The pandemic is still very much part of my daily life here in Macau. Just 2 weeks ago there was another 2 or 3 confirmed cases and I was almost expecting the city to be on lockdown again but luckily, no lockdown. Just yesterday, the quarantine requirements have been cut down to 5 days in quarantine hotel and 3 days at home (we shorten it and say it "5+3")... it used to be "7+3".... whereas Hong Kong is pushing for a "0+3" deal, I wonder if that ever went through. When can there be quarantine-free travel in Macau????
3. Who did you recently see in person for the first time in ages?
I haven't met anyone that I hadn't met in ages, but I did reach out to a friend that I hadn't met in quite a while. I was making a joke about a Casetify phone case as she and I decided to buy around the same time 2 years ago. She surmised that the type she bought was not the type I bought, as her case was still going strong (some kind of hard plastic), whereas mine was falling apart (hard plastic back but silicon sides or something like that).
4. What will me-time look like for you this weekend?
Currently on my me-time at Starbucks. Had 2 blood-pressure-raising incidents this week, one work related, and one volunteer dog shelter related. Oh wait. No. Make that 3 incidents! One new incident from work just yesterday. That was just so stupid. How can that TEAM. TEAM! A full TEAM full of people! Overlook a contract? And only when the contract passed through my desk that I caught all those issues! It was late when I got the contract, and the blasted contract is in Chinese so it takes me some time to actually read through the clauses and articles.... but! Incidentally, I prefer Chinese legal text to English or Portuguese legal text... Portuguese legal text is the worst! I couldn't get back to that team and ask if they actually sent that off to our legal consultant, but from the stack of documents it seems like it didn't go through legal (there's always some sort of endorsement from the lawyer if they have reviewed it) so... I am going to raise some shit on Monday. I already informed another colleague that this contract directly affects.....
Think something like sales over-promising in order to do the sales, then it's the service team or after-sales maintenance team that gets all the shit when they can't provide what was promised.
So!
This is my weekly sit at Starbucks and decompress with my laptop/iPad/Kindle/whatever on a Saturday morning.... and then I have to face the world again in the afternoon....
5. What songs have you been enjoying lately?
I actually haven't exactly been listening to songs... I've got a lot of podcasts loaded so it's taking some time to go through. Though recently if I'm listening to music it's just whatever I've got already on my phone. I've cut my Apple Music subscription, I figured I've not been using it much anyway. And if I need something on Spotify, I found out using it on the computer is easier to control than on the phone (on the phone it's always playing random songs)
