Plans! Shanghai!
Thursday, 28 December 2023 16:00Ah, that's a weight off my chest. So, the classmate has politely not-accepted-yet-also-not-declined my invitation. Which is fine for me. Keep it vague. At least I don't have to wrack my brains on where to go.
Dad has flown out last night. He should arrive Vienna in 3 hours or so. He had ample time in Taipei to transfer his gates, and he complained about not being able to use his value-add card (NOT credit card) in the airport. I'm like, of course, you can't use it. You're in a different country! It's like complaining I can't use my Oyster Card (UK) in Hong Kong (Hong Kong uses an Octopus Card).
On the Shanghai trip, it's funny that I keep saying I'll wait until I've received my concert ticket (still hasn't been sent out yet) for me to actually start planning, yet, I've taken the dive and bought my flight tickets already. It was an emotional roller coaster as when I first checked the tickets, it was like MOP$1100 (US$140) for a round trip. Then on one particular day, I was just looking and it jumped to MOP$1700 (USD$213). I kept my cool and didn't do anything and then a couple days later it was back to MOP$1100. So I figured it wouldn't go lower than that and bought it.
Alternatively, I could have used my mileage points to redeem a free ticket flying out from Hong Kong, but I still had to pay airport tax of MOP$600 and then for such a short trip, I had to make an extra trip out to Hong Kong, so I figured... nah.
As the planning goes, I know I've been to Shanghai as a kid since my Dad used to work there a good few years back (1992/93?), and most recently I went on a group tour with my Sis... I don't remember when. When it was the Shanghai Expo, because we went there for that I remember. As a kid, I didn't care where we went, I simply missed Dad and wanted to go visit him. Then on the tour, hey, it was a tour, so I didn't have to care what there was haha.
So now, I'm looking through pages and sites for information, and it seems there's going to be a lot of choices for me. Ah, decisions, decisions. There's one particular shop I'd like to go, it's a shop for ceramic tumblers/water bottles... but, I just received another water bottle for Christmas, so I'm thinking should I? But those ceramic bottles are very nice! (Lookie!) I bought one in Taipei a few years ago, but then Frankie pushed it, it toppled over, and just... broke, oops!
I was also looking for night markets, and saw one with a pretty nice photo. But I'm thinking is it just that one shot that's nice. Besides, I'm going in January, so it's supposed to berather really cold since it's also the dreaded humid type of cold... I'll see nearer the date.
If I'm really going (come on, I bought the flight tickets already, I'm going) then TeamLab is in my to-go list too.
