In light of the recent Hayao Miyazaki animation, I decided to read this book, though I haven't watched the animation.
For those who do not know of the general gist of th story, it goes like this: Sophie, the eldest of 3 sisters of a family of hat makers, the Hatters, resigns her fate to being a boring, hat-trimming one. However, the Witch of Waste decides to put a spell on her and turn her to a 90-year old lady. Sophie goes to Howl's Moving Castle, the Wizard known to eat young girls' hearts (in truth, just wooing them really), and thus follows adventures and fun and mirth throughout her journey to return to her youth.
This was a good read, but I figured out Calcifer's and Howl's contract by the time Sophie asked about Calcifer's past. The ending felt a little abrupt to me, in a, "what? just like that?!" manner, but I guarantee this is a thoroughly enjoyable read.
