Galaxy Macau

The newest buzz in town is the opening of the Galaxy Macau 1 week ago. Said to be one of the newest, posh-est casino property in Macau, it features the whole Galaxy complex (it's a resort), including 3 hotel towers, which are the Galaxy Tower, the Banyan Tree, and the Okura. It will also house Macau's first 3D cinema and also the largest man-made wave pool in Asia.

I went to have a peak at it yesterday. I was impressed, in a bad way. I was impressed by their so called "Wow Feature".

The first "Wow Feature" I saw was the huge fountain/diamond thing. It was, to say the least, weird. It looked like some sort of crossover of the Wynn Dragon and Fortune Tree show, and the City of Dreams House of Dancing Water show. The Huge Diamond was a great big WTF factor.

There were some of the decorations that looked like, um... vaginas. The staff spoke some really bad English (they pronounced "Bridge" with the "i" sound, so it sounded like "Bride-tche",

The second "Wow Feature" was back in the bus depot entrance.

Granted, these are pretty colorful here, but do they look like those crystals (crypto ores? cryptonite? or plutonium something?) that the Superman in the 70's would be afraid of? Gosh. It was terrible.

The shops weren't anything too special, mostly local brands. The whole property felt a bit small when we walked around it, despite how big the piece of land they had is. They might have to do a bit of tweaking in the shop brands they choose to use.

However, we did try one of their signature restaurants, the Terrazza, which serves Mediterranean cuisine. Pricing was a bit on the high end, portions were a bit small, but it was good. When we saw the mini size of our appetizer, we asked for bread. The waiter, seeing that he had forgotten to serve us bread, presented us with an extra large bread basket. That was good, we could stuff ourselves with bread!

We weren't too happy with the menu though, as they said they were Mediterranian but the food in the menu was predominantly Italian and French. I know that Italian IS Mediterranean, but we have a lot of Italian restaurants here. By Mediterranean, I was hoping to see some Greek or Maltese food.

We did manage to order a Moroccan Chicken though :D So that gave us something to be happy about.

The desserts were interesting, but nothing to tell home about.

Weekend well spent? A definite yes!
