All the dogs are old

We really have to face the fact that the dogs are all getting old.
We started to notice Sai-Lup (literally: Tiny) walking with a limp (you can see in the photo as well, favouring his hind leg) so we took him to the vet. The diagnosis?
He’s got a chronic situation - he must have injured himself long time ago (I actually think I know which incident as well) where a tendon behind his kneecap snapped. It wasn’t properly fixed (different vet back then), and now 10 years on this vet says there’s no point to fix it with surgery. We can only maintain the pain.
On another note, both his shoulder joints are arthritic so he’s gonna need monthly cartrophen shots and needs to go on the omega and glucosamine supplements. Oh and he also needs cold laser treatments, which I’m actually researching to see if I can actually buy the machine... mom can use it for her knees as well.
The amusing part of the vet visit was the following:
- vet says he’s fat and should lose weight
- I replied “yes, I can see that, but I don’t understand why he’s fat. He’s not greedy, he doesn’t steal food, he doesn’t beg, he even skips breakfast by choice.”
- vet apologises. “I shouldn’t say he’s fat. He’s muscular. Touch him, that’s not fat, that’s mostly muscle.
- not sure if the vet is pulling my leg, I went with “well then I don’t understand that either. We didn’t put him through any sort of muscle training”
I guess he was serious though, as when I asked if I should put him on diet food, he reiterated he’s not fat.
Other things:
- Perfect eyes (no cataracts, for a 10 years old dog!)
- Very clean ears! (We never clean his ears though)
- May need a teeth cleaning session
- Heart beating a little slow, but no murmur and no heart issue
- no respiratory issue
So, my dear Sai Lup, no more long walks for you, no jumping and running around, you are an old man!
