Pretty early on. There are many Filipino import workers here, and they basically address everyone as Ma’ams and Sirs. I got addressed Ma’am when I was pretty young.
2. Do you remember when you first realized the difference between being childish and childlike?
Guess what, I still don’t.
3. Do you remember the first time you realized you were more adult than child?
That time when my dog bit a piece of my sis’ lips off and everyone at home was running around like headless chickens and crying and moaning and I’m like everybody be calm and took a tissue and picked up that piece of lip and shepherded dad and sis to the hospital while mom stayed home and cried.
4. Do you remember your first taste of major independence?
Not really. While there are much restrictions in life, we were also given pretty much freedom to do as we like, be it government, society or family. I was allowed to go out whenever I liked, as soon as I started walking on my own to school, I am allowed to go on holidays without much issues, and all that.
5. Do you remember what you bought with your first paycheck?
Bought my family lunch. If I recall correctly it was a Vietnamese pho place.
