1. What’s your favorite root vegetable, and what’s your favorite way to eat it?
It depends. Potatoes are always a favorite, but I think it's a bit common. I also like lotus root, but only if it's made in a way that it is still crunchy. I don't like lotus root in a Chinese soup (usually: Dried squid, lotus root, green beans and pork) as the lotus root tends to be very soft and squishy. I love lotus root when it's braised with chicken or pork with a fermented bean curd paste, the lotus root is very crunchy and yummy.
2. What’s your favorite leafy green, and what’s your favorite way to eat it?
I'm cool with most leafy greens. Rocket 火箭菜 is a favorite for a salad. With my recent discovery of the actual "Western" Kale 羽衣甘藍, I love it too! The restaurant at MGM has a killer salad of it, with a bread roll it makes a very fulfilling lunch. I'm not sure if the Crystalline Iceplant 冰菜 is considered a leafy green or a legume (succulent maybe?), but it's also a new discovery and I like it too. As it's a bit salty it should be good for a salad; I first had it for a Hot Pot dinner with friends. Oh, and when it's Hot Pot night, there's a leafy veggie that not a lot of people because of the sharp smell and taste. We call it the 茼蒿 and Google says it's "Garland Chrysanthemum".
3. What’s your favorite legume, and what’s your favorite way to eat it?
Pumpkin and Butternut squash are favorites. In soup form or grilled. And I also like the grilled zucchini my Dad makes. I once had a really really good five-spices deep fried eggplant slices, they deep fried it so well it was almost like a potato chip. DELICIOUS. Well, I guess I like any and all legumes in a hot pot or Shabu shabu setting.
4. What’s your favorite vegetable to put on a pizza?
We don't have a proper oven to make pizza at home, but at the Il Teatro (very expensive and exclusive Italian Restaurant at the Wynn Macau) they do a Bianca Pizza that's practically mozzarella cheese, Parma ham and rocket and it's heavenly!
5. What’s your favorite fruit to eat in a green salad?
LOL TOMATO! I read this somewhere, and I'm just paraphrasing it now, Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. I guess another common favorite is pineapples? I like fresh pineapple but I hate the canned ones. Dragon fruit is also good in a green salad. I think in that killer Kale salad I mentioned above they had passion fruit juice (and seeds) all over the salad so it was a bit sour-y tangy and sweet, it was a good combination too.
