Random things

Super random post, I wanted to jot this down before I forgot about it.

Recently, in my Chinese friends group and Cats-related group on Facebook, the "hot topic" is asking Siri to help you name your cats (it works with dogs too, I heard). I've tried it with the English Siri but it seems it didn't work out, or I did not use the correct phrase/question to unlock it.

Basically, the script (in Chinese) is "Siri, can you help me name my cat?" And then Siri will ask 3 very random questions, usually with the last one being something like "Ok, the last question, and it is most important! ..............." then then asks the last random question.

The final answer would go something like "Actually, nothing of that is important. I think a good name would be.........." and the name is usually some other random sh*tty funny name or phrase LOL. In this image below, the final name given is "Hey". LOL

I just find out now that I can't do a Facebook video embed here. Pity. And I wanted to embed a video. I guess I can only share a link to the video.

I wanted to mention about Gregory Rivers 河國榮

As far as I know, he is Australian born and went to Hong Kong and then got into the Hong Kong media business. As a Cantonese Chinese speaking foreigner (accented though), he always played the "Caucasian boss/superior/bigshot businessman" in the 80s-90s Hong Kong soap operas or tele-novellas. Mr. Robinson and Mr. Brown would be common names used for him, as I recall, LOL.

What am I doing trying to think about his past? There's a Wiki Page on him! I don't need to do the thinking!

Anyway, he has since quit from TVB (a Hong Kong TV channel) and now does... I don't know what (LOL sorry). Independent artist? Or whatever. I think he was recently in a western movie though (something about a war, he was a soldier, I have a faint impression of that), but I couldn't find any trace of it. Huh.

Apparently he's now doing a Hong Kong-based dog show thing, and this is the clip I wanted to share.

Facebook Video here

I may be a Caucasian-looking person who speaks fluent Cantonese, but I guess I'm somewhat an ingrained Chinese as well, and seeing a Caucasian-looking person speaking fluent Cantonese stumps me as well, LOL.

You can argue that in Macau there must be a lot of Caucasian looking people that speak Cantonese, which is true. But these Portuguese/Macanese mix people will always have that accent and word use that when I hear them speak I can already tell that they are not "Chinese-Chinese" and that they are "Portuguese-Chinese" or "Foreigner-Chinese". Heck, there are people who, being ethnically Chinese but having received their education at the Portuguese school, also have that slight accent that I can tell 95% of the time. It's the soft G or the hard J... I don't know how to elaborate. Just that I can tell!

For the record, I'm told that, if I'm spoken to on the phone, no one would guess that I am non-Chinese. Heck. There was once a guy from our HR thinking that my Boss has 2 assistants, both sharing the same name Kat. One was the Chinese Kat he spoke on the phone with, and the other was the Caucasian Kat that accompanied the Boss to the meeting location but he didn't talk to, WTF. Imagine the odds of that.

I guess I just suddenly wanted to talk about Cantonese because of the news today of a 70-year old Chinese lady being attacked in, was that San Francisco? And then she retaliated? I saw the news clip and the poor woman was ranting in Cantonese.

This set of questions from F.riday5.com

1. What tool did you most recently purchase, and what tool will you purchase next?
Tool. What did I buy recently that can be consi8dered a tool? Hm. The IKEA Plutt, I suppose. Just those hook-things that you stick to the wall so you can hang some small things.

2. What toy did you most recently purchase, and what toy will you purchase next?
Toy. Most recently. I haven't bought any much toys now. I guess my model display case for the Lego cars? I had it tailor made from a Taobao store and now the cars are protected from dust. Lovely.

3. What staple did you most recently purchase, and what staple will you purchase next?
Had to buy more pads two weeks ago LOL. Next I need... I searched for the word and it's cotton swabs. I need to refill my cotton swabs dispenser thing. I had to search for the word that because I distinctively remember that being called "cottonette" (alright I found it's cotonete) as a kid, but I also think I've read that being q-tips here and there... and thanks to Google the real term seems to be cotton swabs.

4. What did you most recently purchase to give away, and what will you next purchase to give away?
I bought a bracelet for my Sis' birthday. Next birthday is my godson's, so I'll either have to think about what to buy or just resort to a Lai-See and save myself a headache.

5. What are you most recently glad you did not purchase after consideration?
Until 2 months ago I was still splurge shopping and just finding stuff to buy on Taobao, but I guess the mood has passed and... I haven't itched to buy anything stupid for a while. I had been thinking about a new phone case, but then... I already have a serviceable case, why do I need to buy a new one? And didn't buy one. The mood comes and goes, really!
