Holiday

It's a public holiday today, on a Wednesday, which is nice. Work for 2 days, get a break, work for another 2 days, and it's the weekend.

Though they "Why is it a public holiday" is a more interesting question.

78BBDA50-4D68-41F6-98D4-7D7EC92F61F7.jpegYesterday was the Mid-Autumn Festival, where the Moon is at its roundest in the whole year. There's also another fold tale that I'm lazy to search and write about, so...  Anyway. We eat moon cakes, which is a disgustingly sweet and heavy thing made of lotus seed paste and salted egg yolk. There's a supposed savory option which is made of nuts and maybe pork. This year I've received 2 hampers of mooncakes and they were all the *NEW* and *STYLISH* concoctions of new businesses. After eating those new creations, I have to say I'd much rather eat the disgustingly sweet traditionals LOL.

Anyway, the tradition is... you go home and visit family (much like the Chinese New Year) and play with paper lanterns, eat mooncakes, look at the moon, some people cook up candle wax, but to this date I still have no idea why they do this. Anyway, all these festivities are celebrated at night, so usually businesses close up early, and I also got to leave work at 4pm.

The public holiday today is officially called the "Day-after Mid Autumn Festival". Yes. The holiday is because, you have stayed up late last night to look at the moon. So it's a holiday today. I personally think it's a ridiculous holiday LOL. It's not like people nowadays sleep early anyway. But who am I to challenge a public holiday?

Shopping

I'm going to have to reign in my shopping these days. I did pretty well last month, but once I saw I had so little expenses last month, and then I had an idea to check on fountain pens on Taobao, and I went on a mini spree. These are all my fountain pens (less 1, which is at work). The pens on the left are 100% authentic and bought over the years. The pens on the right are recent Taobao buys so their authenticity can be disputed haha. I have to learn how to write with these pens, as I think I hold the pen wrong and I damage the paper more than I write. But I was just told in a Facebook group that it could be the ink. Anyway, I'll practice writing lighter.

With the calligraphy pen the bleed is terrible, and I was convinced it was because I press in too hard and scratched the paper, but I'm told it's the ink (Montegrappa). So I guess I'll have to wash that off and then try another ink.

And then these are art/dib pens that I have no idea how to use. It's almost like I have to dip my pen in ink for every word I write. A bit tedious.

Talking about stupid Taobao buys, I found a store that sells certain Japanese import products. I guess you can think of them as some sort of forwarder or group shoppers. Anyway, these are amaizing designs for pen pouches or makeup bags. I laughed so much. I especially liked the Moses one, but the Noah one is interesting too. Not to worry, I did not buy any of that crap.

Habit Tracking

I admittedly bought one too many of the Hobonichi Weeks (might have mentioned about them here and there sometimes). So I'm trying to use one of them as a habit tracker. The conundrum is, in order to successfully use it as a habit tracker, I have to get into the habit of tracking habits. LOL. And I didn't want to wait until 2022 because I sort of am convinced that I'll forget about it. So I've repurposed the few pages in front. It looks terrible because I simply used white out, but once the "proper" weeks start (last week of November), then the pages would look better.

Reading

Oh, this reminds me I have to write that review for the Megumi Hayashibara book I read. Thanks to that book, I was informed about the existence of the English translations of the Slayers series. I have the full set Chinese version sitting on my shelf. I've read the first book in Chinese. It's not that it's boring, it's just reading in Chinese takes so much effort for me... so now that there's an English version, here I go!

Overall a good read, but it wasn’t a true epub format, I guess because they wanted to keep the pictures and artwork, so I couldn’t change the text size (I’m on a kindle white). Probably would be easier to read on an iPad.

I got to reminiscence many of my childhood favourites as Megumi wrote about her experiences with each character. I didn’t know of the more recent animes as I haven’t been watching for a while, but still it was nice to read about how she faced and resolved certain things.

Beautiful and brilliant sorcerer girls just can't have nice things, huh? All I wanted to do was swipe a little bit of bandit treasure. Now suddenly I'm being chased around by icky trolls, nasty demons, mean mummies, and brooding golem bad boys. And for what? A tiny little artifact that can bring about the end of the world? Hah! I'll show them there's a reason you don't cross Lina Inverse...

Having already watched the first season of the anime 15 or so years ago, and already read the Chinese version of this book, and a Japanese abridged version, this was just a refresh of the story to me. However, the anime seemed really long, and the books too. Perhaps reading in a language you are not proficient in makes the book feel longer.

This was a surprisingly quick read. Come to think of it, of course, it's a light novel. Breezed through the English version of the book. It was nice and nostalgic. Now on to the next book!

It's a public holiday today, and I had some time to muck around, so I thought I'd do this earlier. The questions:

The challenge this month will be due Friday, 24 September (but can be done earlier or later). This challenge will be a voice challenge, so you can make a video or just record yourself. In this voice challenge, you will answer at least two of the five questions listed:

1. What is your earliest memory?

2. What was the last film you saw in a cinema?

3. What is your dream holiday?

4. What was your favourite subject/class in school (or, if you're still in school, your current favourite subject/class)?

5. Do you have any tattoos? If so, describe them. If not, would you ever get one?

You can answer all five if you'd like, but answer at least two.
