In the last couple of days, I had been telling my Sis and Dad when we took the dogs out that the garage (or the building car park, I guess) was getting really stinky. It stank of dead rats. So we were wondering where the dead rats were and why the street cleaners weren't taking away the rat traps.
And then I see this news.
https://macaonews.org/social-affairs/brother-and-sister-found-dead-in-rua-da-penha-flat/
I was just commenting to the family "huh, guess dead rats or dead humans have that same smell."
Mom then says they're actually family friends. She knows the sister more. Apparently they are cousins of my Mom's close friend too.
The English report here doesn't say much, but in the Chinese media, there's a lot being said about how the social services haven't been doing their jobs, that her ID card found in the apartment is still the old phased out ID card.
The theory is, the sister died first, then the brother, who has some issues and couldn't care for himself, died due to lack of care.
It's pretty sad. Apparently this cousin (Mom's friend) was asked to arrange for the funerals and such but she declined. The poor woman is over 80, I heard, and has mobility issues, I doubt she could do much, even if she wanted. She says there are still other family members, so those should. be approached instead. Don't know how it's going.
And this is why I think when this batch of animals die out, we are not getting more animals. I keep thinking - far off into the future, if I die, who's gonna take care of the dogs? I don't want the dogs to starve... I think I also read a news just like that. Poor, poor dog!
