Mom’s humbling experience
Wednesday, 21 September 2022 13:57So my Mom took up a part time job. It's a tutoring center and it's for the students from the local Portuguese school.
Tutor centers are the norm here and I've worked a summer in one, and while the kids loved me, feelings were not reciprocated.
Mom having been a teacher in her working days and eventually the school director or headmistress, we thought, no harm done, except maybe Mom holds some rather archaic views of teaching (you know, a slap on the palm here and there)... but apparently, something else has stumped her.
Primary 2 (Year 2?) kids homework has stumped Mom. It's not anymore difficult questions and answers where answers are strictly facts by the book.
It's riddles.
Mom asked the kids, "your teacher at school didn't teach you this?" Kids answer "no, teacher says it's homework." Mom replies, "well I don't know the answer either. Tell your teacher to teach you that."
The riddle in question:
"I am painted, inside and out. I have eyes but I do not see. I have a mouth but do not speak. I have a black hat too. What am I?" (Loosely translated from what my Mom said in Portuguese)
( In case you want to give it a go at the guessing, the answer it’s behind the cut )
But seriously. I don't know why I answered that either. I'm not going to be cliche and say "coz I'm a genius," I'd rather just say, "I passed the class ya?"
