Typhoon Hato

Okay... so here's something to tell home about.

Before that though, I just opened my Youtube channel and why the hell is everything in Portuguese? I can't switch it back. meh.

Anyway...

So it's the Typhoon Hato. This time, it was deadly. It was a direct hit to Hong Kong and Macau. The Macau Metereological Services website is dead. Wind speeds from 63km (Typhoon signal #8) and up, in Hong Kong they even recorded up to signal #10, meaning it was Hurricane level, with wind speed over 118 km/h. In effect, Macau should have the same signal, but we're used to the weather station downplaying everything. More about the signals and wind speeds if you are interested. These are based on Hong Kong.

Anyway, so we had a bit of trouble at home - power outage, no water supply (the pump of the local water supplier is not working, because power outage). Soon we will loose telecommunications signals, the TV station will run out of backup electricity soon. It's simply a disaster.

At time of writing this, there are 3 casualties. And I'm hearing this not from the local station because power outage, we're hearing this from the Portugal international channel, imagine that.

Anway, I think it's now the eye of the storm so everything's on the quiet side.... but looking at the map the cyclone should be gone already...

I have some videos of the carnage from my home. Excuse my English.

Windows in the "backside verandah" got blown off.... Must have been when we opened the door on the front, and then a strong gust blew in... and bye bye windows.

We were in a bit of a panic because after that strong gust of wind, I saw that my dog couldn't even walk against the wind current and I had to carry him into a room. Then we couldn't find one of the cats. I thought the cat got blown out. Later I found out the cat was in the nook between my sister's bunk bed and my bed (see above photo). More on the video below:

edit to add: Video 1
I can't believe I forgot I shot this first video... that's what was going on during the typhoon, not after. This was before a flower pot went flying...

Video 2
This is the view of the "backside verandah". We wanted to clean up a couple of the flower pots on the "front verandah" and opened the door. I imagine the air current from that blew out our backside verandah window. Imagine my surprise when I was just going to get a towel and saw an "infinity view of China" (usually with the windows there's, like, frames).

Video 3
This is the front verandah. We had to put all the plants down on the ground (they are usually sitting on the ledge). One pot flew down and so we opened the doors to get out to put all the other plants down, and that's what caused the flying windows to happen. The neighbour on our direct opposite got her glass door smashed. During the strongest winds, we actually stood out there pushing the door frames... so that they don't get blowh off whatever. Really dangerous stuff, but we survived...

Next is the cleanup. I'll still have to get to work tomorrow first, but I may take Friday off to continue the cleanup. Geez.... wow...

No more typhoons for the rest of the year, please.

This is really scary! Do you often get hurricanes?

We get typhoons a few times a year, but to the strength of a hurricane, not frequent at all. The last Typhoon #10 of such damaging power was like 18 years ago.

The typhoons we get usually top at signal #3
