Gardening morning
Sunday, 21 March 2021 00:08Did a bit of gardening this morning so I just thought to put it on record for my own future reference.
My first terrarium. Still looking good. The red pagoda is growing like crazy. I've already cut the top off as it was squishing into the glass, but no sooner had I cut the top off, had it started sprouting new leaves at the cut site. It's a tad scary, really!
There's the red pagoda (left). It's supposed to turn red, but it's just been growing like mad.
I repotted the first batch of "babies" into another spare terrarium I had lying about. I made use of the existing decos and Bambi and let's see how it's gonna grow.
And then since I had spare pots that I use as a nursery, I repotted some more of the spare babies into them.
The Sakura moss ball (left) has all the flowers gone, now it's sprouting leaves like mad. The Japanese flowering quince (right) similarly is now sprouting leaves and also has a second wave of flowers coming.
My Japanese Maple is now... turning green...? Aren't they originally green, then turn red in Autumn, then the leaves fall, and new leaves grow back? But instead the red leaves are turning green? I wonder if it's because it's not getting enough sun? I need to read up on how to keep them red.
I'm stumped about my Suehime plant. It got really bushy so I though I was doing something right, but now just as suddenly it's shedding and shedding and drying up. I dug up the roots to check and it's not root rot, the roots still look good, but the leaves are definitely getting weaker, yellowing up, and then just falling! It also doesn't seem to be sucking water. The soil used to dry up very soon before, but now the soil just stays damp. I'm kind of convinced it's dead or something... But I've put it in the sun today and tomorrow Sunday I'll put it in the sun again, hopefully it helps strengthen it?
