1. Can you impersonate anyone famous?
I can try, but I don't think I can impersonate anyone convincingly.
2. Can you do any accents other than your own?
I can do a Cantonese Chinglish. I can also do a Cantonese Chinese-Portuguese LOL. I can also do the "widely accepted" "foreigner-Cantonese" as "made-normal" by Gregory Rivers aka Ho Kwok-Wing. But really, any accent is difficult and I can't hold it for long LOL.
3. Do you have a strong local accent?
I've mentioned a story from before: I communicated by phone and by email with a guy from HR to arrange some meetings for my then-boss. I later escorted my then-boss to the meeting location and met the very same HR guy. No verbal exchange, just a simple nod of thanks, and I left.
The following day I called the HR guy to "thank him for taking care of my then-boss" (whole lot of "good manners" BS), the HR guy said, "oh, no worries, Kat. I also met your colleague also called Kat, right?"
(To note: emails are usually in English, but verbal communication in Cantonese.)
Me - (WTF?) "huh? What do you mean?"
Him - "your colleague is a foreigner, right? Kat? She escorted Mr. XXXX to the meeting?"
Me - "um..... that was me?"
Him - "but she's a foreigner, and you're Chinese?"
Me - "whoever told you I'm Chinese?"
Him - "you speak Chinese so fluently?"
Me - "... so you know you were arranging something for Mr. X, and by email communicates with someone called Kat. Speak on the phone with someone called Kat. But you assume they are 2 different persons?"
Him - "But that Kat is a foreigner!"
Me - "I give you consent for you to look up my p-file. Heck, you are HR in Recruitment, look up my department Org-chart. There is only one Kat."
4. What's your favorite accent?
Don't have a favorite. Though recently there's a new big hype about the "proper British accent", and the first name that comes up is Uncle Siu 蕭叔叔. Youtube link for your viewing pleasure, if interested.
5. If your family hated your current partner, would you ditch him/her or carry on with him/her despite the protests?
All that drama! But it hasn't happened to me yet, and I doubt it's ever gonna happen. However, by memory, I remember when I was a kid, my oldest cousin (from my Mom's side of the family) that got sent to Portugal for a few years, got a black boyfriend. I don't know if he's African/American/Senegalese/Indian/whatever, I only remember he's dark-skinned. I mean, that's fine yeah, you love who you love. But my Mom and aunts (sisters of the same family) just endlessly gossiped about that. "Chocolate milk colored children" and all that. I mean. Come on, just shut up. Later on the guy broke up with cousin and now cousin decided to come back to Macau. I still don't know the details and what happened, and that's none of my business anyway, so I'm not ever going to ask.
Questions from F.riday5.com : Perambulating
1. What routine have you recently altered merely as a change of pace?
Ever since I fixed my wrist, I've been alternating my workouts from treadmill walk and some HIIT... I couldn't do those HIIT before as any planks or all-fours or anything that I have to place weight on my hands would just hurt too much. So yeah. I've also started running outdoors as well.
2. What unexpected occurrence did you recently take in stride?
I don't know. Nothing out of the ordinary happened recently.
3. Where do you go for a casual stroll?
If it's the post-lunch stroll, I usually walk over to the nearby tourist area and made a round and walk back to the office. If it's at night, I run around the lake, sometimes if I'm not doing too well with the run, I will walk around the lake instead. One lap around the lake is around 2-2.5km.
4. Through how many gates did you pass this week?
Well. Depends what "gates" mean here. Are there any other meanings to "gate" than what I know of "gate?" If it's just the plain old "a hinged barrier used to close an opening in a wall, fence, or hedge" then no, haven't walked through any, though, on my way to work I walk past the "Government Palace" and there's this huge gate.
5. Around whom (or what) have you been tiptoeing?
Nothing much requiring stealth for me recently, so I don't really need to tiptoe anywhere LOL.
