The Hobonichi Challenge 2022
Friday, 1 April 2022 23:46I've always liked to draw, but I was never really artsy, or creatively artsy. Used to draw a lot in high school, mostly anime style drawings, but I always was crap in coloring. Life then got in the way, University, Work, more school, and that hobby sort of tapered off.
I did have a stint with the Hobonichi Challenge in 2018***. That was my year of depression, and probably because of that I actually managed to complete the challenge. By the tail end of 2018 I had come out of my depression and was struggling to keep up, but still managed, but 2019 was futile.
This year, 2022, I'm not depressed, but I still wanted to do the challenge again. But I've gone on a more lackadaisical approach. "Do it or not do it. Or leave it for the weekend! Or not!" Also, I decided to do the challenge on a Weeks instead, so the area is a lot smaller. I was also trying out a few things so the first few weeks weren't really consistent.
So far, for the first 3 months of 2022, I've managed to keep it up.
January was all about cookies. I wanted to write about the cookie and even the recipe, but soon found out there just wouldn't be enough space for all that, so instead I ended up just writing what I know of it, and then a comment.
Also, the color tone of January seems rather consistent... well of course, it's cookies, it's mostly gonna be brown and beige haha!
February's prompt theme was Japan. By this time, I've all but given up on commentaries, and just wrote a quick line about the place. Mostly whether I've been to or not. They've also sort of repeated Hachiko, so I decided to do the usual Hachiko statue, and the reunion one that I DID make the trip to the University to see it!
It is because of this prompt that I realize I'm woefully under-travelled in Japan, despite my loving to visit!
March was exotic flowers. It was fun to find out that "oh hey! I know this! But I didn't know the name!" Or "Oh! That's called so-and-so in Chinese!"
There were some complicated flowers that it's obvious I'm just too lazy to go into details LOL
The upcoming April theme is going to be spicy food. Being that I can't stomach spicy food, I'm not sure if I will have the patience or interest to do it. I'm also advance-imagining that it's going to be a lot of red red red red. We'll see! I get to learn new things anyway, so it might keep my interests up.
*** Just found out that during the LJ import it wasn’t able to import the youtube embeds… and of course I’m too lazy to find the videos on youtube to embed… so in case you want to see the past flip-throughs (I only have 3 though), they can be found under the LJ tag of Hobonichi2018.
