So it starts
Wednesday, 5 February 2020 14:17I had to work till 2am this morning because of fielding questions about my boss' new decision for his side project... for everyone to stay home and work remotely for another week.
The company I work at has issued a 2-week remote work thing. Anyway, for that side project, that HR team will iron out other arrangements, so I guess I'm good for now. I went into the office this morning to pick up my *cough*secret*cough* external harddisk so I can have all the files with me in case I need to work on anything remotely (since IT has so kindly banned all VPN access as well) (My PC is one of the oldest ones in the company.... I'm a frugal person at work. Everyone's upgrading their PCs every year, I'm still using my same old PC from 8 years ago. The only upgrade I did was from y 14" monitor to my current 21 or 23" monitor 2 years ago)
My job now is to look for some snorkeling/jetski course for my boss... when he's over there and I'm over here... he did say the words "there's too many choices, you go read them all and shortlist stuff for me"...
Okay boss, I don't know why you want me to do something SOOOOO remotely (when you are over there), but OK. I'll pretend I'm making plans for my future holidays.
So I'm at home, on my bed, with my laptop and my work notebook/journal/scheduler ready to start this mini research work.
Our new Chief Executive (elected and sworn in last December) is now the new favorite. It's so funny seeing those posts on Facebook. His Chinese name has the same pronounciation as "10%".... so the joke now is... "With only 10% and he's this good, if he puts in 100% then we're invincible!"
Our CE has mandated closure of casinos for 2 weeks, NOT ALLOWED to book that as Annual Leave AL, nor No Pay Leave NPL (or Leave With Out Pay) for staff. All public facilities closed, to avoid gatherings and crowds. He has guaranteed that all Macau citizens and workers (with a valid work permit) can purchase face masks from government hospitals and government partner pharmacies (1 face mask a day, can buy in lots of 10 face masks every 10 days). He has made a claim that "Macau has bought out all face masks from Portugal" (LOL that's bullshit, I'll bet on it!). When asked whether this was over spending public funding, his come back is "We claim to be, and we ARE a rich economy, if we don't spend it now in this critical situation, when do you want to spend it?"
Comparing to Hong Kong's CE, our Macau CE is now a hero and a favorite.
In case you were wondering, I failed in securing any bleach or cleaners as people are in a panic and buying out everything. Public parks, dog parks, everything is closed. We walked the dogs this morning, saw the dog park unlocked and wanted to get in there but then were asked to leave by a security guy. I have to think about where to walk the dogs for the next few days.
At least it's still eventful around here.
