I guess I met my match (??). I wasn't able to finish reading this book. Admittedly, from various reviews at sites like Amazon.com, this book is supposed to be some eye-opening adventure for people.
The story line (of the part I have read) is pretty neat - you see how this kid thinks about stuff and he travels to New York after being kicked out of school. It feels real as in there's nothing fake, and it being told in a first person's perspective could have made it a pretty easy read.
However, it was not meant to be (at least on my part).
Being a first-person perspective narrative, and supposedly from the 30's or 40's or so, the book is quite literally, littered with cuss-words, foul languages, and slangs. It's quite colloquial, and so much swearing goes on that if you take away all the swearing and repetition, the book could have been slightly shorter.
I didn't quite enjoy this book as I had expected, and I'm not trying to drive people away from this book. I just suppose that there are people out there who are like me that couldn't take too much swearing at one time. hm... Slang-overload, anyone??
