I was originally wary of reading this book, because I had a very bad relation with Emily Brontë's book, Wuthering Heights. That, combined with the strange cover my DTB copy of Jane Eyre made me think that it was about a girl in a mental asylum or something.
How wrong was I!
It's just about an orphaned girl and how her life progressed in 4 different stages - when she was 10 and her immersion into Lowood, when she first ventured out from Lowood and went to Thornsfield, when she ran away from Thornsfield and went to Moore House, and when she returned to the Thornsfield master, Mr. Rochester.
At first, I simply thought how poor and unlucky Jane's life was - but slowly I began to grow and respect Jane. Her determination, her resolve to follow her own principles. I often fantasized that I have a character not dissimilar to hers, whether or not I do possess such character, I cannot determine by myself. One is never a judge of one's own character.
In high school, I loved Pride and Prejudice - I liked Elizabeth for her wit, and Mr. Darcy for his cool-ish charm. I loved their union. Most of all, I loved Mr. Darcy's letter to Lizzie, and Lizzie's eventual turnaround in her feelings for Mr. Darcy. It was mighty romantic. But now Jane Eyre has taken the place of being my most favourited. It's not as romantic as Pride and Prejudice, but, dare I say, more down to earth, pragmatic, I guess.
Now, let me think of my next book to read. I want to pull myself out of the classics for a while. I think I'm writing in some funny English already. Let me come back to the modern times first. I'll slowly go through my paid Kindle books. It'll be Angie Fox's The Accidental Demon Slayer. Oh wow... I'm glad I grabbed the then-so-called "free" version of the book (I had to pay an $2.00 as "international transmitting fee). I just opened the product page and it's now not available for Asia and Pacific region.
