I first heard of the Amish community in an episode of Bones (the one where the boy was a musical prodigy), and it was from there that I learnt that they were a people who lived very simply - no TV, no music, no telephone... So when I saw this book on Amazon listed as free (well, $2 delivery for me, but still...) I decided to get it.

Reading it was quite a pleasant experience. I imagine the Amish way of life would be very fulfilling... though being a grown city person, I will probably get bored of it pretty soon.

The book was an enjoyable read. However the whole Annie and Samuel thing was bit obvious... right from when they first met. It felt more like a "forced" eventual romance. And I wasn't too happy with where it stopped. So, what of the other girl, Sharon? And what of the pup?? What of Charity?? What IS the First Christmas and the Second Christmas like? Her Dad? Her apprenticeship!???

The end of the book left many things hanging, and now I'm just itching to find out what happens next.

I think the Amish are so fascinating. There's a podcast episode from Stuff You Should Know that's all about the Amish and their traditions that's really good.

There are a bunch of Amish communities around where I live. At one of the large supermarkets, there are stables for them to keep their horses and buggies while they grocery shop. I actually went to a horse show where some Amish were showing their horses. A friend of mine and I rode in a large van with two Amish girls...at one point, one of them was on a cell phone. I don't remember why, but it was very odd to see that happen...
