Pretty busy weekend
Monday, 27 August 2012 00:20I had a pretty busy weekend this week. So much stuff to do... I don't even know where to start... and I have this headache now... bah!
Anyway, on Saturday, it was my parents' wedding anniversary... 34 years married! I treated the family to Kira, a Japanese restaurant that serve a dinner buffet. Last year I went with my office people there and it was heaps good, but this time round it wasn't as good.
And it costed a pretty penny too. Luckily, my Dad is so famous (not really, haha), that one of the chefs there recognized him, and signed the bill for us, so we got a whopping 30% staff discount!
But I have to say, in terms of service, Wynn's Il Teatro takes the cake. And talking about cheesecake, Grand Lapa's (Ex-Mandarin Oriental Macau) cheesecakes are phenomenal.
I was pretty stuffed and had to get into bed a little later than normal because I ate too much... like always... need to keep away from buffets!
Because of a rather complicated story that involved finding a broken drawer and bringing out bags of old clothes, there is one great item from China, I have to introduce to you. The general consensus on "products from China" is that of inferior quality. In recent years, it has even gone down until harmful! But there is one item that I think could be the greatest product to be made in China ever.
And it is the Red-White-Blue Bag 紅白藍膠袋.
These nylon bags (at least I think they're nylon) have been around since forever ago. In fact, this particular bag you see here must be over 30 years of age, still sturdy, not a tear on it. And it has been constantly stuffed like that in the years it was with us. Even the zipper is so well sewn on, that it is tough to tear it out. And, the back is waterproof.
You see these red-white-blue materials everywhere. From these bags, to temporary shade covers, and to wrap up the long bamboo sticks used in construction sites.
So as I cleaned up today, I sorted out 5 bags of clothes that my mom FINALLY conceded to give away. Oh boy, finally! Now I have a bit more space in the upper cupboards and can properly store away my off-season clothes.
And because my Dad saw that my Mom was being so easy-going with giving away stuff, he cleaned out our so-called shed too. My curious dog was getting in the way, so I made a story out of it:
These humans... So much trash! How do they want me to clean all this up!? And this box is so heavy! heeeeeeeeyaah!
Shame on them! This is slave labour! Making me carry all these stuff! I'm basically just looking for small spaces in-between to stuff things in only!
Yes boss! Everything is properly put in already! Can I have my bone now? Please? Pretty please!???
After cleaning up stuff for a bit, I headed out to China again, as it's manicure day! This time I couldn't decide on a design from the books, so I just told the girl to do a gradient base, and then a simple design. Overall not bad, but if in a good light, you'll see her gradient was a total fail.
I also had lunch in China. My noodles was really delicious, but the most delicious was this. It might gross you out: I don't know the actual English name, but I've seen on a couple of menus this dubbed to be "Thousand Year Egg". It's a goose or a duck egg, fermented until it's all black. The common saying is that while the Chinese can't stand the Westerner's Cheese, the Westerners can't stand the Chinese's Thousand Year Egg.
I saw a golden sky as I went home:
And I had to do some shopping at the department store. And the girl once again gave me the wrong product. Ohwell. My own fault too, I should have looked at the stuff she gave me, but anyway...
ah... finally found my bag of miso... I'll make a Miso bread! I'll have to check out more recipes... if I have too much leftover, I'll probably go around and see how to cook up a miso soup. I think it shouldn't be too hard, I just need to get some tofu and chop up some spring onions... I guess...
And because I can feel that I'm on the road to getting sick again... I'm going all out on this... taking this twice a day.. I seem to be fending off the cough OK-ish, but still... the cough is winning...
And that is how my weekend went... The boss is out again, and the supervisor is in Taiwan. I'm again totally alone in the office for the next few days, so maybe I could get a bit of reading done. The friends are getting the Bangkok trip sorted out too.
Oh, and my Japanese classes start tomorrow. I hope I won't die of boredom... I think if it gets too boring I'll just quit and enroll elsewhere...
