Hong Kong Disneyland - HALLOWEEN
Friday, 12 October 2012 22:10Hi! Yes, consider me dumping out posts today - after yesterday's trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, I had wanted to hop over to Hong Kong again for some time alone, but then thought better about it. Better just stay home and keep the cash in my pocket :)
Yesterday, I went with my friends to the Hong Kong Disneyland. They had wanted to see how the Halloween theme and the night parade looked like, so we went and looked.
We were sorely surprised. If you know any Chinese, Cantonese to be exact, we dubbed this "Wonderland" as "One-Bun-Land", which in Cantonese is 搵笨Land, (Google translate can't help you here), and it means something along the lines of "think play you stupid land", or, "Cheat you land". Don't you think, you can be the most clear-headed person BUT once you step into Disneyland your brain gets wired into crazy and whatever you see turns to be "CUTE! Oh! I want it!" whereas if you see the exact same merchandise in a shop in town then your reaction is "duh, don't need that." They must be sending out some waves that our brains catch and turn into mush.
The entrance wasn't decorated in any spooky halloween stuff. Heck, the entry ticket was just regular toy story images! AND they just opened their new area - the grizzly bear or something.
At least the main Mickey and Minnie right after the entrance were in a halloween-ish costume. Shop displays also had a halloween touch.
We were really eager to hop into the Corner Cafe for some Halloween themed food.
... and it tasted absolutely yuck.
So we went on to some rides - the Buzzlightyear with shooting ride (Space outriders or something?) and a Space mountain (rollercoaster-ish ride?). The shooting one was fun, the rollercoaster was so-so. In the souvenir store I see some merchandise for a new animation by Tim Burton - Frankenweenie... it was so darned cute, but I had a clear mind! And resisted temptation.
It was also in this trip that I found out my iPhone 4s camera IS HEAPS BETTER than my Canon Ixus 75 camera. oh darn, I don't feel like buying a new camera, but after seeing the difference in performance I will never use my Canon Ixus 75 anymore.
We passed by the one place in Disney that the 3 of us agree is the most terrifying and horrifying place in all Disneylands, all over the world, wherever they are.
Met a tiny friend right in the middle of the road
Spun ourselves like crazy on Mad Hatter's Teacups. Sat in Pooh's Honey Pot. Hunted for Snow White. Flew on the Dumbo. Checked out the Normal Parade. Went to Toy Storyland. Rode on the Slinky Dog Ride. Went on that parachute thing (my friend took a really cool shoes photo! I am waiting for her to send it over). Also went on a car ride. Had some frozen yoghurt. Walked on to the new Grizzly Bear area. Went on that ride too!
It was a rollercoaster type ride too. But through it, you see bears in the mines. I was quite miffed that I was not prepared to have my camera tied securely on my wrist! I thought, it was a rollercoaster, better keep everything in the bag - which is true, but, had I had the camera securely tied to my wrist, I could have snapped a photo of that stupid bear scratching his ass on the lever! And then the stupid bear that pressed on the TNT and boosted the ride to a really high speed ride!
Maybe I did enjoy myself haha.
Anyway, after that, we passed by an immensely NOT SCARY haunted house or circus (the circus master tried to scare me 3 times and I did not budge one bit. Come'on, scary in a theme park is all in the mind: you know it's all man-made) and after that it was back to Main Street, waited for the Jack Skellington Glow-in-the-dark Night Parade, then had dinner in a Chinese place (which, we weren't expecting it to be good or grand but IT WAS GOOD) and went out again for the fireworks display. More window shopping and off we returned to the city, to the pier, to the ferry, and back to Macau.
What a day!
Glad to report, the only stuff I bought was a couple of "magic towels" (it's compressed to be really small and you have to soak it in water to make it big) as souvenirs for the kids, and one set of mickey cookie cutters for myself/my dad to make mickey cookies this christmas.
I also have 2 videos of the night parade and the fireworks but I'm not sure where I could upload them to... Flickr only allows for 90-second videos and mine are 15 minutes long...
And I wonder if you can tell which photos were taken with the camera and which with the iPhone. Most of the night photos are with the iPhone as the camera just can't capture anything in the dark...

Date: 2012-10-12 16:07 (UTC)Is the It's a Small World place a weird ride where they sing the song repeatedly and it drives you insane? Oh man, they have that in Florida as well as Space Mountain (which I loved!) but that particular ride is so awful. I don't know how anyone could enjoy it.
It seems like in general, most of the rides and attractions are the same as the Disney World in Florida.
Was the pumpkin with rice a real edible squash? All the food looks really amazing. The parade floats too are just spectacular!
