Book Description
A war memoir that will capture the hearts of its readers, just as one scruffy puppy sneaked his way into the hearts of hardened Marines just when they needed it most.

Another dog book off my shelf >:D
This book was a little harder to digest (for me) than the other usual doggie books I've read. The other books are mainly about "the dog's life". This book though, is about the attempt to transport "a dog in the war zone in Iraq to the US".
The whole process was pretty nerve-wracking, even for the reader, so this Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman must have been at his wits' end.
I found the writing style a little hard to understand - there were sporadic colloquial talk that I'm still mulling over (I'm not a native English speaker) and there were 2 or 3 parts where the "scene" got changed every 2 lines that had me really confused (that was the near-final part when they were trying to get the dog into the plane).
In a way, I could relate to him. I may not be living in a war zone, but heck, I could hardly turn my head away from a suffering stray dog. G*d knows I had a good 4 to 5 dogs over the years, just because I chanced upon the helpless thing in the street, hurt, starved, or lost.
What he did was commendable, and that so many people reached out to help him was a very beautiful thing. Even that "Sam" guy. Especially for that "Sam" guy.
Lava the dog is now happily settled in La Jolla, California, USA.
