Good food, and recent shopping
Saturday, 11 July 2015 21:48I'm going about this in reverse order, but anyway, photos are happy things for everyone, aren't they?
So we went to the local Mandarin Oriental because they were doing a guest chef thing with chef Stephane Carbone, and that's what we had. The apple thing seems to be their pride, they say this was served to President Obama, and also to The Queen. *shrugs* To me, it only matters if it's good.
And I was playing around with a new app with the petite fours. Aren't those faces cute? XD
Backtracking a little bit, the other day, as I mentioned, I had to make a trip to Hong Kong. I went to have a look at the Japanese bookshop, and I saw this...
That, that, that, just killed me. All those books! OMG! and OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!
It was the book A Dog of Flanders that made me go crazy. I know, I know, I'm even slow at reading English books, what about Japanese books, it'll take me forever to actually read it. But I got it.
Then I walked around another bookshop, and found another interesting book - 一個人的狗回憶:高木直子到處尋犬記. I'm familiar with Takagi Naoko's works so I know this is bound to be an enjoyable read. It was. Fun! Good buy.
Since it's a light-novel, it's got some pretty pretty illustrations inside (Dog of Flanders book). I'm going to savour it... if I ever manage to understand it, that is.
There's also this Japanese goods and whatever fair going on in town, and I went to have a look today. Scored myself some kurotaki 黒炊き (seaweed boiled down in soy) - I thought it'd be good to stock up on that so when the parents go on holiday and we have no food, then we have something. The seller also suggested to try that with mozzarella cheese. Now I'm curious!
We also got some Kimchi-type of Japanese preserved or pickled veggies but my friend will have to pack it up for us first - again, food for the foodless nights (that with steamed rice? great!)
OK I just noticed Flickr is being weird and I'm not sure if I could embed the photos now... fingers crossed, hope it works! And it's time for me to go. I'm still going on my Criminal Minds marathon. It's starting to get boring, but ohwell...
