We had another meeting for the Animal welfare thing last night. I guess my Mom should be impressed, as there were only Portuguese people around the table last night, the meeting was conducted in Portuguese. The ladies were worried I wouldn't understand the going-ons. Well, at least I still know (some) of the idioms. Putting a cart in front of the cow? No problem!
.... it was really pure luck that I knew that particular one, haha. And now after Googling, I just find out there's an English equivalent.
But miracles don't happen, so the meeting minutes that I sent out earlier today was in English. So sue me. I've still got loads to do. Apparently, we don't have a list of members. We have all the application forms, but no one ever has made a list and a log of it. We receive emails with receipts and donations and food payments, but no one ever has logged any of that. And of course, the job goes to yours truly. One day I really am just going to call it quits. I don't mind the work, I mind the attitude given when dishing out the works. "I'm busy so you do it." erm, hello? Like I'm also busy?
And I had to find transparent labels. Because one year and 2 months later, the members cards are finally printed. Card only. And we need to have names printed on transparent labels to stick on the card. I'm not a designer, but I wasn't honorary member of the Art and Advertising Department @ Student Union back in High School for nothing. It's a DESIGN DISASTER. But the Portuguese ladies win *shrugs* I'll just shut up and do as I'm told.
So while hunting for those transparent labels (got them!) I got a couple of Christmas cards, I guess i should have 2 to spare. If anyone wants a card, send me a private message with your address :-) if there are more than 2 I can always get more, no worries.
I feel very productive today as I had 14 items listed in my "Tasks" today and now I'm down to 3 *feels so proud*. One of them is to comb through the association Email mailbox and the Facebook Inbox to trace all payments. I'm not going to start that now as it's 10pm, with 14 months worth of mail & messages to go through, nope, fat chance I'm starting now. Tomorrow after walking the dogs in Coloane then I'll start. It's also too late for the vet visit, so it's tomorrow too. And Christmas shopping, I have like 21 presents to deal with, and I only just did 1 and have an idea for another one. Still 19 others to go, which won't get done in one day.
So LJ has been funny again, I logged into LJ and checked the recent comments, not expecting anything new as I didn't receive any email notifications, but boy, there was quite a lot! What's up with the email notification now?

Date: 2015-12-05 21:00 (UTC)Is there a big Portuguese community in Macau?

Date: 2015-12-06 00:04 (UTC)The 2 official languages in Macau are Portuguese and Cantonese Chinese, but I think you'll find interesting that Portuguese is not a required subject at most schools. According to Wikipedia, only 3% of the population has Portuguese as a native language and 7% claim fluency (and even that, I think it's skewed too high).
Only 2% of the population are ethnic Portuguese.

Date: 2015-12-07 23:07 (UTC)About portuguese people. Just a thought could it still be so that portuguese people have it easier to get to Macau and live there?
A little like there's many Hong Kong Chinese in Vancouver (making them Hong Kong Chinese Canadian?) since it was easy for them to immigrate to Canada back when Hong Kong still was British and Canada is in the British Commonwealth of nations.

Date: 2015-12-08 14:29 (UTC)I heard there's some by laws or something that give Portuguese a little more ease in applying for residency but I don't know anyone who actually did that. Nowadays, due to the great influx of foreigners and all, it's become really hard to get a residency permit.
