Happy 10th!

Ten years ago today, on the then-coldest-day-of-the-year-so-far, I was walking my dog Peppie (see my icon!) and he was preparing to do his Big Business, that I sat down on a ledge.

Certainly, a little black dog jumped on me and sat on my lap.

"oh, who are you?" I asked this little dog. The dog did not answer me. She just looked at me and wagged her tail.

I decided to try again. "Where's your boss?" I asked again.

Just then, a man walked past me, the dog jumped off and chased after the man. "oh, ok, there's your boss," I say to myself belated, clean up Peppie's business, and go on my merry way.

Ten minutes later, when Peppie was busy sniffing at some spot on the grass, I turned around and "oh! Hello again!" it was the black little dog. "Why don't you go home?" I asked. She just looked at me and started to follow hesitantly me as I made my way home with Peppie.

I tried to lose her, but then when we crossed the street, a bus was coming, and I got so worried she would get run over that I just turned around and said "Come on, you slowpoke, follow me! Come!" and she came running towards me.

We got home, and well. I was surprised my Mom didn't get pissed, and my Dad looked ecstatic. "This is a good dog," was the first thing he said.

"I saw her before," Mom says. "She must be an abandoned dog, she was looking for someone."

The next door neighbour commented (yes, a busybody) that she saw some kids "playing/torturing" the dog with a metal chain.

At home, in good lighting, I see her tail was a little crooked. She gobbled up the food we gave her. I gave her a bath.

We kept her for a few days, then decided that if she's staying for good, we should get her neutered. She was christened "Elizabeth (a.k.a. Lizzie)", but no one has ever called her that (haha). She goes around by "Menina" (girl, in Portuguese). My Dad also calls her "Mädchen" (girl, in German).

She got along well with Peppie (well, Peppie was a saint of a dog).

And now, 10 years later, she is now Queen amongst the dogs. She is the first for treats. She is the first to "get a lift" to get on the bed. She gets the dog bed. In fact, she gets ALL the dog beds if she chooses too. She even gets the human beds. Nothing is off-limits for her. And she behaves well.

I wonder how my Dad knew from the first look that this would be a good dog. Perhaps it's Dad and his in-touch-ness with nature. She even gets along with the cat now, so we really can't complain about anything.

Such cute pets!  I am glad you took care of Lizzy!  Of course the other doggies and Kitty too.

The cat doesn't get along with one of those dogs, it's pretty funny to see, but I believe one day they'll accept each other!

I'm glad we decided to keep her too. We did post dog found posters around, but no one answered those.

Adorable pets ♥

That is absolutely terrible about those horrible idiots torturing her. I just can't see how anyone could hurt any animal =C

I don't get it either... Kids think it's fun. I really want to punch them when they mistreat dogs.

Any human that thinks it's fun or okay to hurt animals deserve to be punched. Repeatedly.

Awww, so sweet! That's so nice that your family took Lizzie in. (I hope those kids that tormented her with a chain get what they deserve someday.)

We can only rely on karma for that, but she's in good hands, and that's what really matters now.

All of them were either just picked off the street or were going to be sent to the kennel (to be put down). I might do an intro story one day.

Yeah, we caught her in the street and took to the vet for a health check and the vet said the same thing.

Though the cat has turned really annoying and would meow at night. LOUDLY. For no reason at all.
