Despite the boss being out on holiday, and this week being a mainly holiday week, I was still swamped with work...

I had plans to deal with the Fixed Assets crap, but now I think I'll just let it run its course and say not enough manpower to handle that.

First there's our lovely transportation department forgetting about a scheduled pick up for my boss. I got so much shit for that. Like, "didn't you check it?" my boss yelled at me.

Geez, the pick up was at 10am. I checked at 8.30am. I even reminded them to "go earlier since, you know, this boss would definitely start whining about the car at 9.45am". And they bloody okayed it. And then promptly forgot about it. And when I was coordinating the disaster pick up they were telling lies about it. I mean, if you did something wrong, just own it, damnit. I call the coordinator and the coordinator says "driver is stuck in traffic, but he's on the bridge so should be there soon!" I call the driver and the driver says "the coordinator just told me to leave now, I'm still near the base, but there is no traffic, so I should be there soon."

In the end, the boss took a taxi.

Of course the person who gets the shit is me. huh.

On happier thoughts, though, look at all these souvenir/gifts I got!

My skills in latte art are uncomparable! Because it's at 0. A friend got me this nifty deco latte thing. It's a piece of... I don't know... edible sheet? Sugar sheet? Whatever it is, all I have to do is just place it on a coffee or milk or whatever that's hot and that's it. These are... only in Japan can they think of things like this...

Same friend got me this nifty Snoopy charm thingy, which I've tied it on my housekeys already. Snoopy Town is a place I'd really like to go one day! Maybe I should start planning for next year...

It was the Winter Solstice yesterday. In Chinese custom, Winter Solstice is much like Thanksgiving, I gather. Families would sit together for dinner together. But in my family, since we pretty much dine together everyday anyway, it's not something big for us. But we still follow some culture stuff, such as having dumplings (a play on the words "get together").

Another colleague has kindly ordered boxes of Christmas themed cupcakes. The cake itself was OK, tad on the sweet side, but I'm not eating any of those decorations. Pure. Sugar. Noooooooo.

I also went to have lunch with a friend on Monday, and this restaurant makes really nifty stuff! There's this truffle and 'shroom bun, shaped like a 'shroom (honestly, it's really a bread bun thing, the thing on the left). On the right it's a lotus root puff, again, they made it to look like a mini lotus root. And that black thing in the background is black egg or thousand year egg or century egg (preserved goose egg)... YUMMY!

What, that edible sugar sheet thing is kind of adorable. I love that it exists. Haha.

haha, yeah, it's really interesting, but I don't think I'll use it much, since it's all individually packed, I'll be giving them away :D

Sorry I missed this post first time around - that food looks seriously good. We had such fabulous food when we were there. It's so different from the Americanized version. Dumplings look especially yummy!

We are having a similar problem at work with someone who won a raffle prize, but then was told she didn't call back fast enough to claim it - this makes no sense at all because normally Footlighters just leave a message for them to pick it up in the office. We know who messed up, but will she admit it? Not likely. Sigh...

oh, whereabout were you in China/Asia? Chinese cuisine can encompass so many things, sometimes even I don't know that's it's Chinese.

When I was a kid, my Mom always took us to Portugal for the holidays. There was this Chinese restaurant just next door to our apartment building, and when we went there, we were laughing, because for us, "That just isn't Chinese food." However, now that I know more about the diverse Chinese stuff, I recall now that the Chinese restaurant was serving Northern Chinese cuisine, whereas what I have everyday is Cantonese or South-Eastern Chinese cuisine. Now I know, that was very naive of me back then!

There's always someone like that in workplaces, and it's annoying... but we can't do much bout that either..... sigh....

We travelled extensively in China from Beijing to Shanghai, and Wuhan to Chongquin and many bits in between. Also Japan, Korea, Vietnam (interesting place), Singapore, and Thailand (not technically in Asia, I don't think).

Cantonese was probably the most familiar, but I also developed a taste for Szechuan as well.

it's funny how some presents you receive at Christmas you look at it and go, "What the hell am I going to do with this?"

Snoopy, however, is just awesome.

Really, I know... so this year I've posted some hints on Facebook about stuff that would be useful for me... now, I wait until tomorrow and see what my family, cousins, aunts, have got me...

(I don't ask for much, I just want some super warm undershirts and tights, for my trip to London in January)

Snoopy is always awesome :-) I just saw a strip where Charlie Brown was writing to Santa for Snoopy saying he's a good dog even if he wouldn't step in for Rudolph if Rudolph got sick, LOL

the latte art sheet is cute!

i remember seeing the thousand-year eggs on a cooking show and being very concerned... but then relieved to find out they are not ACTUALLY preserved for a thousand years! do they still taste like egg or is it different?
