OMG OMG OMG this is supposed to be Wordless but I am so excited I just have to say something. So I went to a cake art workshop by Bravo Cakes last weekend.

*points up* THAT took an awful lot of time and I made it! The cake base is a Korean rice cake thingamajoo which the workshop made for us. She demo-ed one, showing us how it's made. It's a really weird cake. It's basically just glutinous rice flour and water. There's one more flour that I don't know what it's called in English, Google translate says it's "sticky powder" but, I don't think so... huh.

The flowers are not marzipan. Though I'm also interested in learning how to make marzipan flowers/decorations. What I used this time is a white bean paste and it's all piped out. That pink rose is so squashed LOL.

Argh, I'm greedy and a show off, one photo doesn't quench my show-offyness

Left to right >> 1. My first flower (the ugly one on the right. The left one was by the instructor). 2. Slowly did all the flowers needed
3. Almost done. 4. Top shot. 5. Back shot.

This private workshop was a little expensive and the cake base didn't keep well, so we had to throw out basically more than half of it after a couple days in the fridge. It's not supposed to be fridged, and if fridged we should steam it warm... but the bean paste deco can't take heat and have to be fridged (geez)

However if I manage to get a spot at the culinary school for a similar cake decorating class then I can practice more my piping skills! This was fun!

I'm not sure if I'd like that type of cake since I don't like bean paste at all, but it looks sooooo pretty! You did an awesome job!

thanks! Honestly though, both the cake base and the bean paste was yuck.... it's such a waste, but yeah!
I think the bean paste can actually be used over and over again (just have to adjust the color properly) so I'll try to just do that

Very nice indeed! Are you seriously going to try for a culinary school? How cool that would be! Rock on!

Thanks! Well, I say "culinary school" but i don't think I can handle a full course (the type meaning I change profession). They have some short courses on specific things, and I've seen a cake decoration thing, but that's buttercream and not korean bean paste. I suppose the theory should be similar.

but it's crazy - there's 15 places and already there are 60 applicants. Anyway, I'll wait till my parents are back then my schedule is more flexible and I'll go look :D

I wasn't planning to, either, but somehow one class led to the next. Never did it as a career, though. The back couldn't take the pounding.

Still, as long as you enjoyed yourself, that's what counts!

You did that after one lesson? Impressive! Cake decoration is an art in itself. There is some amazing stuff out there.

Wow! That's still impressive work even if you don't think it's perfect.
