Friday Five 10-March
Saturday, 11 March 2017 09:431) What was your first word?
It never was in my mind to ask my parents this....
2) How old were you?
Didn't ask, so I don't know...
3) Who heard you say it?
Didn't ask, so i don't know...
4) Did you have trouble pronouncing any words as a kid?
Yeah, lots of them too. While I did frequent an English based school all my life, my dad sometimes use German pronounciation to say some words, and my mom is Portuguese based, so she hardly helped me in English... while as a kid I read a lot - there were many words I knew but didn't know how to pronounce it. One such word was "Shenanigans" which I only found out how it's pronounced some 5 weeks ago during drinks with a colleague.
I remember my mom teaching me English but her pronounciation being aweful.... words such as "taught, caught" etc, pronounced them as "tautch, cautch" (think "scotch")...
And like my dad trying to say "it's drizzling" but saying "it's nizzling".
5) Are there any words you consistently mispronounce today?
I can't decide whether "memo" is pronounced like "MEEEmo" or like "MEMOry"
Of course, I'm sure there are many more but I can't think of them right now.

Date: 2017-03-12 00:00 (UTC)I had the same problem with reading and not knowing how the words were pronounced, although I was reading in my native language, there were still some I had never heard spoken before.
