Our MinPin (or, suspected MinPin) is rather sick. He looks and acts well enough and with good spirits.

In Chinese they just say it's stomach water, so now I've done a search and the term that came up is Ascites, or abdominal effusion.

I was looking at him one day and wondered why he suddenly looked like a balloon. Quick trip to the vet and diagnosis done.

At first he was given a shot a day, to help him pass the water. It seemed to help and get him to size down, but as that shot hurts the liver, so the vet soon changed to pills. The pills didn't seem to work, so we requested for the shots again. After a week of shots, the vet explained it's really not good for him. So instead, the vet just directly remove the water by abdominocentesis. However it take around one week for him to balloon up again. This has been going on for 3 weeks. I should have done the research earlier but now I read that there must be an underlying problem. Maybe the next vet visit I should ask to do some blood work and see if we can resolve the issue once instead of just draining him weekly.

Poor dog!
Good luck to you both. I hope that on next visit you will get vet to find the case and get right treatment.
