Life updates

First, a bit of a rant.

There’s a new colleague at work. It annoyed me, especially for what she’s done. I know her as “an alumni from the same University”, a year above me. I know her for a certain name (long, convoluted, many syllables). I don’t have her on Facebook, but she has a very good friend on my Facebook, so I sporadically see some updates about her.

She’s recently joined my company and introduced herself as another name (one syllable). I scratched my head. “Aren’t you called *previous name*?”

“Oh yeah but it’s a weird name, so I’m going by this name here.”

Huh. Again someone who changes their name as easily as changing their clothes. And I find that super annoying. Especially when she said “going by this name here.”

*chill* *meditate* *tomorrow will be a better day* *breathe in* *breathe out*

I really think I have some kind of godmother or guardian angel (or whatever you like to call it) or just plain dumb luck with accidents. This is the second time in my life that something like this happened.

We were in the dog park and my dog was causing some trouble, so I ran over to the dogs. Due to the grass, I didn’t see the uneven grown, but I apparently sunk one foot into a sinkhole and fell. I’m super lucky I only got some scratches on both my legs (wearing shorts), because it could have gone very badly, like dislocating my knee or fracturing my leg. The first time this happened, I was lucky I only had a slightly sprained ankle and not an outright dislocated foot.

I’m a bit sore though because I did hit my right knee a bit, so it’s a bit black but otherwise I’m fine. Just super itchy legs today because of the scratches.

We are now up to 30 cases of confirmed Covid-19 and more hotels have been reserved for quarantine use (for the incoming people). Other than that, life is just going on as normal as can be.

I hear we've climbed to 32 or so today... the gov't is trying very hard to curb it.

How are you and your family?

That's a bit weird, she just changes her name randomly? Is it a related name? Like was she going by a nickname and wanted to use her real name, or the reverse? I'm always a bit intrigued/skeptical when someone reinvents themself in a new environment. But maybe I've watched too many dramas, ha!

For most of the Chinese here, since their "english name" is not an official name, it's not on any of their Identification Documents, so in truth they can easily change it.

I know someone who just changes her name in every phase in her life. In Primary school she was Jennifer, in Secondary School she was something I forgot, and then University i don't know, coz I'm not in her circle, and recently, now I noticed she's changed her name to Maya.

it just annoys me...... I'll probably just continue to call that girl from work her old name, despite it probably being rude. But I'm not prone to changing a person's name.

Ohhh ok! That’s interesting. Actually I did something similar in Korea. On my first day there I was given a korean name (Min Ju), I didn’t choose it. After about a year, u had two good friends, Su Jeong and Su Kyeong. I decided to change my name to Su Bin, because in korean, families will have a common syllable. So two brothers might be Pyongho and Pyongcheol. Hahah.

Ouch. you really are lucky. That could have been bad. I hope the bruising and itchiness goes away quickly.

Thank you :) The scratches have scabbed and are not itchy anymore, though the bruise is still tender to the touch; but I'm on the mend, it's all gonna be OK :)
