Plants update
Sunday, 10 January 2021 20:44Been a while since I wrote about the plants... since I got a new addition today, I thought I'd make a plants post! All photos with no filter today, coz, plants!
This is my new plant! In Chinese it's called the 姬乙女 or 姬月季, I did some searching and found the English name to be Suehime, it sounds Japanese, and a little more digging I find out that it was cultivated in Japan in the 1990s. It's rather robust, strong resistance to diseases, and very easy care (plenty of sunshine and plenty of water). It can flower all year around too! This particular one I got is a little more expensive because of the stems and root, I thought it looked really cute, like a Bonsai. Supposedly I could have gotten just any regular shrub of the same plant at a cheaper price. But you know, packaging sells, and I fell for it.
So my pumpkin-not-pumpkin (really is a tomato plant) Solanum plant is still growing strong. It got some flowers and is growing taller, and the older fruits have dried out but not fallen off, so I don't know if I should trim them. I shall do some research on it tomorrow and see. Some new flowers grew, so I'm not sure if I should try to manually pollinate it so that it grows new fruit? But supposedly it only fruits from September to November, so I wonder if it's too early to try doing that? Again, more research for myself tomorrow.
I don't know what I did right, but my African Violets are growing like crazy. It's like, just overnight and suddenly there's a whole bunch of buds and flowers popping out. I had planned to trim the leaves a little bit but now I guess I'll wait until this batch of flowers fall off.
The Nerveplant (Fittonia Albivenis) is also growing strong, however, the colors are fading. Light research says it needs more sunlight, so I may have to relocate it to outside in the veranda instead of my room window sill.
The mini Maple Tree in a moss ball thingie I had (I still couldn't find the English name) lost all its leaves. My friend says that it's dead, while my Sis says that it's hibernating. So anyway, I'm just going to keep the moss ball hydrated and see when the weather starts warming up, if new leaves will grow. I mean, if it's dead, the stumps should probably grow either soggy or brittle or shrivel, right? I dunno. Since I couldn't find its name, I couldn't find any care instructions for it.
I had this succulent ball thing that I had already repotted a few of the succulents because it was getting really tight. But I've been window shopping at different shops and it seems for such succulent terrarium, the point IS to make it all tight and cushy. So... I dunno... I really like that green pumpkin-look-alike thing, I wonder if it will flower.
Then there's this dark green succulent (again, couldn't find the name yet), that I didn't notice, but it has been multiplying! I'll try to let it grow more.
These two succulents (again, no name LOL) were originally in that terrarium ball but they just suddenly grew so tall tall tall and were all squished up inside, so I took them out and repotted them. They continued to just shoot up, and apparently it's either I've been giving them too much water, or not enough sunlight, so that's why they were chasing the sunlight. I was told I could just chop the top off and let it re-grow new roots, so this is what I did.
I'm also trying to propagate the leftover "leaves" from that tall plant, and have successfully gotten 3 of those "leaves" to grow something. Now let's see if they will continue to grow.
These two were also from the terrarium ball, but it looked like they were dying, so I took them out and repotted them. Looks like they are going strong.

Date: 2021-01-11 06:46 (UTC)Yes, I’m also slowly going in too deep as well.... I’m waiting for a handyman to help me put up a couple of shelves on a bare wall so I have more space for the plants! I’ve also ordered some newfangled plant growth lights to help when the days are overcast and not sunny enough! It’s a dangerous hobby!
