I didn't mention it before, but I had a case of credit card fraud thing in the beginning of the month. My bank is usually rather secure with credit cards, with online payments requiring something like a 2-factor authentication thing for transactions over MOP$500 (say USD$60 or so). I woke up on the 2-January to see 2 messages on my phone. First message was the usual "input this code to your transaction". But it was weird, because usually these messages will say the amount.

By the time-stamp of the received messages, right on the next minute, was the message saying "transaction for GBP750 approved".

I was like, WTF? 750 Great British Pounds? That's a lot of money, and I didn't authorize it?

I called the bank and the first thing I said I'm confused, if I didn't input the 2-factor authorization code, then why did the transaction get approved? The girl on the phone replied smoothly "oh, they will try different websites. If one website requires the code, they can try the next, and the next, until they hit one that doesn't need the code." Huh. They asked if I went on a certain website (Envirofone?) and nope I didn't. It was freaking 2-or-3am in the morning, I wouldn't be shopping at that time. So I had to cancel that card first. There's charge to re-issue the card (with a new number).

And then I need to pay a fee to start an investigation to prove that I really didn't make that transaction. If it is proven that I didn't make that transaction, then I won't have to pay it. But if it doesn't prove anything, then they will consider I made that transaction and I will have to pay it. WTF?

When I was challenging them about the authorization code and approving a transaction without inputting it, they (the bank) did say "they will try different websites." By that "they" I would assume the hackers/fraudsters. If the investigation turns up useless I will raise that challenge again. And if not? Mom told me to threaten them that I'd take all my money and put them elsewhere.

But erm.... it's kind of a sticky situation... coz this particular bank is the only (I think) non-Chinese bank there is here. This bank is backed by the national bank in Portugal. So I dunno. I keep thinking it's a good idea to keep some money in this bank because, yanno... someday somehow something may happen with Chinese-based banks here. It's 6 weeks to complete the investigation, I guess there's just 2 more weeks of waiting to know now...

ANYWAY, the real point of this post isn't because of the banks. As the title says, Classic no-homework excuse. Should I say it's the Classic American No-Homework excuse? I have no idea. Do the Brits/Europeans use this excuse? At least I've never actually used this excuse ever.

SO, because that credit card got cut, I forgot I had a recurring credit card charge for a donation I had. They sent me a letter so that I could make good the missing payment and update my credit card. I wanted to fill that form up and have everything settled today, but...

Last night, over dinner, Frankie (that French Bully from Hell) hopped up and snatched that form away and started shredding it. OMG!

I had to call that charity this morning and had this super lame (but truthful) excuse of "my dog ate the letter". I don't watch much movies/TVs/whatever, but I know about the cliche "my dog ate my homework" excuse, LOL. They snickered a bit but prepared a new form for me and sent me by email, so that I could print it out however many times I will need it. (Meaning: my dog can eat however many copies of that form).

I've had more than a few fraud cases spread over the years but naturally since I've bought a lot online that's probably why. A couple of them came from Nigeria and India then in my home state just recently.

We've had a few instances of people buying stuff with our credit card this past year. Luckily we got it taken care of...thankfully the company's the stuff was purchased from sent e-mails about our "purchase" so we got. them before they had actually shipped the stuff to wherever it was going.

I have had my dog eat a letter once when she was a puppy, she also ate a book, or chewed up really. 😂
