Second Friday Five 19-February-2021
Saturday, 20 February 2021 11:211. Do you think you are more or less courteous than your parents?
I think I'm more courteous than my Mom. She's reached the age (+70) where she thinks because she's a senior she can get away with anything. She's cut queues, thrown tantrums, and all that. Typical Karen behavior. My Dad is a nice guy, but he's also getting on with age, and mostly if he's being not-courteous, I feel like it's just because he's forgotten about it and not doing it on purpose.
2. Has the pandemic effected your manners and in what way?
Macau hasn't really been hit that hard, and the civilians have been rather "respectful" of government instructions. 1 year on, and we still have a total confirmed cases of just 47, and all have been treated, recovered, and released. We are asked to wear masks and "declare our health and travel history", and people have been compliant and just followed what was requested, and life is pretty much the same as always. (Only an obvious lack of foreign tourists)
3. Do you think manners should be taught in school or at home?
Manners are taught at home. School can reinforce it, but manners are always from home.
4. If you are a woman, do you like having a guy hold open a door for you or would you rather hold open a door for a guy?
I think this "western concept" is just overrated. If you are nice, you hold the door open for the next person, if they are just behind you. Surely, if they are like, some 50 meters away then just let it go. But if that someone were just a few steps behind you, I don't care if you're male, female, trans, alien, whatever, and I don't care if that other someone is whatever, just keep the door open for the next 3 seconds is basic courtesy.
5 Guys, what about you? Do you like having a woman hold a door for you or does it make you feel weird. Why?
Not a guy, but I'd repeat the above answer as well.
