Hm... Today we called the air-conditioner cleaning guy over to clean our air conditioners. We didn't use them the whole winter, and now, preparing for the warm weather, we got them cleaned, so that we can use it without worrying about the few months' worth of dust.

Since our problem dog is always, Frankie, while the man came with his team for the cleaning, I was tasked to entertain the bloody dog. I wanted to take him hiking in the mountains, but one look at his face... he's a French Bulldog... nah, he'll tired before we step into the more heavily wooded area and he'd be wheezing. So I just went out to Coloane village.

Coloane village has a shoreline that just faces China. So.... technically, you can swim over to China. Realistically, you're gonna get caught by the patrolling marine police on both sides. It's along this part of China (I suppose further along to the left) that is the spiffy new amusement park Chimelong Ocean Kingdom. I went to the Chimelong Zoo in Guangzhou a couple years back. It's old. This Ocean Kingdom is new and supposedly more impressive.

I found a car park over at the end of the village proper, there's a temple, and a road up which I think there is the old shooting range. Not sure if it's still being used or not. There's also supposedly a tree at the entrance of the shooting range that I heard is haunted coz some time someone found a person hung on the tree. *shrugs* Anyway, had I walked up that slope further on to the shooting range I would be able to see the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom thing I mentioned. It looks like an obnoxious castle.

Instead, I go towards downtown of the Coloane village. I suppose this is now considered the "rich people villa area". Originally this village is one of the poorer areas because mostly it's fishermen that lived here, but I suppose with the economic development, they are able to build actual villas instead of apartment complexes, so now this is a rich people area.

It's also pretty artsy. The graffiti is not malicious, I think the graffiti is actually commissioned by the government, or maybe the building owners.

Not even 15 minute into the walk and the dog needs a break LOL

I remember there should be the Coloane library somewhere but I couldn't find it. Then I remembered my phone has the new spiffy wide angle function so this is the Coloane Chapel. I forget the real name of this church though. St. Xavier maybe? Aaaand yes, Chapel of St. Francis Xavier. In my mind I kind of think of this as the Korean community church though. I wonder why that little tidbit of info was stuck in my head?

Some more random Coloane village shots. It's actually pretty scenic. Nearby is something called the "Oscar Farm" and it used to be a private... something... and now they've opened it up and people can actually go gardening there. The only issue is parking. I would love to come here more often but it's a bit of a bother to hunt for car park, or by public transport which is 98% always full.

Everything is really quirky, from the bright colored buildings, to flamingos (plastic) on the balconies, to bicycle rentals having their gates closed but the sign at "OPEN" (LOL)

This took us around half an hour. I then found a shady area and sat down to let Frankie rest. Flat-nosed dog problems. Can't breathe in heat. Anyway, I still didn't hear from home that we can go back, and I got bored sitting there, so next I drove over to the beach.

There's actually 2 beaches in Coloane Island. There's the Cheok Van beach, which used to be "The Portuguese Beach" (the beach was cleaner, or the sand was lighter, and the Portuguese loved it there and sort of monopolized that beach) (before anyone bitches about discrimination, I'm talking about the mentality from 30-40 years ago). The other beach is Hac Sa beach, which literally means "black sand beach" because the sand is darker. It's also actually a longer stretch of beach than the other beach, and it was more like a second-class beach. Nowadays though, they've renovated everything and there's no such differentiation between the 2 beaches. Maybe Cheok Van is the more quiet one, and Hac Sa the more populated one. So at Hac Sa beach, there's the "front" end and then there's a "backside" end. The front end doesn't allow dogs. But I don't think swimming season is on yet, so dogs should be able to go. Whereas the backside end doesn't allow swimming because of whirlpools (again, this was 30 or so years ago, I don't know if it's changed now). I didn't go to the backside end though, so we just walked along the front.

I decided to go to the barbecue stall area to let Frankie drink some water and was so tempted to buy some barbecue snacks. But the prices there are severely inflated so in the end I didn't treat the dog to any sausages or frankfurters LOL. I did find this old Coke bottle statue thing. I remember 3 such bottles around town. There's a Fanta Orange bottle in Taipa, I don't know if it's there. I think there was a Fanta Grape or a Sprite somewhere too. Perhaps I'll go hunt for them one day.

After that, I got the call that the cleaning guys were done, so we headed home. With my air conditioner cleaned, I knew the guys would have got dust everywhere, so I did a wipe down around my room, changed my bedsheets to a lighter color set (SUMMER!), put the grey sheets to wash, and then it was out for family lunch.

These are not from today, but over the past few days, Nutmeg has changed her target to Bido and has been bugging him LOL poor dog. He's so blind and not knowing what is going on that half the time he doesn't even know there's a cat with him.
