開張大吉 | Lion Dance for your viewing pleasure
Saturday, 31 July 2021 10:35It was really a busy week. My Boss' birthday, I'm still waiting for the photos coz there's one photo I'd really like to post but the event photographer has it. Here's a nice night view at the Lisboeta property. Should have gone a little more to the left so it catches the whole mural.
There were 3 cakes. A colleague tried to make me order a cake to shape like the boat but I staunchly refused. She has an event planner, she can plan the event. It was her idea anyway. She can't use the shoddy reasoning that "I'm his secretary" and dump all the work to me (like she had done MANY times). She's used this reason enough times.
Had a couple of big meetings as well. Had to have the meetings then rush to get those minutes out ASAP.
And then yesterday morning was the Grand Opening of the Grand Lisboa Palace. I had participated in the initial of this project, then I got transferred to another boss at the time (my ex-Boss) who didn't really let me touch much on this project (while he was working on this project), and then he jumped ship, and I got transferred to my current Boss and also wasn't much involved in this project. Anyway, it's nice to see the project completed (LOL with my ex-Boss I helped him prepare a Critical Path document that said 2H2017 opening hahahahahaha). Certainly a project with some delays.
Again, I am digressing.
So, it was the opening yesterday (partial still), and they had a Bai-sun ceremony (Chinese style praying to gods ceremony). As openings go, they had the Lion dance ceremony as well. Basically, the lions are "not alive" and when they dot the eyes (eye-dotting ceremony) the lions come alive.
The part where I'm laughing that the lion got chopped in half? Usually they erect a structure where the back legs of the lion (the second dancer) would climb up as well, but I guess they didn't have enough trained young men for that? Even the head of the lion when he was climbing up the pole he had to remove the lion's head... again, if it were a properly trained guy they would be, I don't know, not go "out of character". Or maybe they didn't erect the proper stand, I dunno.
Enjoy the ka-ching ching music and the rhythm of it all!
It's a pity that I was just in the spectator side and couldn't get a nice angle. Also, after the dance when the people were just waiting around, the guy in the lion was doing a pretty good job of being a bored but inquisitive lion, twitching the ears, blinking the eyes, tilting the head (like what dogs do hahaha) but I just wasn't standing in a good spot to take a photo and proper video of him.
Hope you enjoyed the Lion Dance!
