Random Sunday Update

elusivekHad a bit of time on my hands, and had a couple of things I was thinking about writing, so I'll just mash them all up to a random Sunday Update :-)
Movie night
Friday night, I went to watch the documentary/film Collective. It was pretty interesting. I didn't quite get the ending though. I know it was the family of one of the victims, but I was hoping more to see what the minister of health did. That guy surely grew on me, from looking like a n00b and not knowing what to do, to actually trying to get things done in radical(ish) ways.
More interesting was the language. I had always thought Romanian was a more Germanic language. I actually understood parts of conversations... because it was so similar to Portuguese. Apparently Romanian is a Latin based language.

Silly, useless shopping
I don't think I need to say too much about this, only need to show you a photo LOL. Sorry if anyone has feet-phobia. Taobao is crazy silly and hilarious. I got a pair of house slippers because it was shaped and colored as our cat Nutmeg. Surely, after 2 days wearing it, I notice the ears are starting to come out LOL but it was a fun, cheap buy.
Manicure
This time I went for a dark color, despite it being summer. But, well, I do like to see my hands with dark nail colors. Sometimes I like it all nude (there's a line of colors I like for that, but I wasn't feeling it this time). But, I say, look closely, it's actually a deep green.
Other News
Not much going on. It will be the parents' wedding anniversary on Wednesday so I should get a dinner arranged. For that uncle that passed away last week, the wake will be tomorrow night, and then Tuesday morning the funeral service but they're not burying him yet. They're sending him to China to be cremated. Only one cousin (who isn't this Uncle's son) has the paperwork to go to China, so he will accompany the service and bring the ashes back to our Aunt. I had to go about and arrange sympathy flower baskets for the whole family (why me?) and then there's the "White Envelope" thing as well. It's actually money given to the family of the deceased. In Chinese custom, you have to add a dollar in, no matter the amount you give. Don't care if you give a million dollars, you need to add that $1. Something about "things can happen twice", and you wouldn't want another death.
Postcards
I've sent out the first batch of postcards! But if anyone missed and wants a postcard from Macau, just let me know! I've received a couple of direct swap requests on Postcrossing, so I will soon have to arrange for that anyway! Send me a pm with your address if you want :-)
Volunteer
I've suddenly be called by one of the shelter/charity associations for a meeting this afternoon and I guess they need more active people. They're going to put me as the Secretary of the General Assembly. Actually, I've always been that, but they never called me in for work or meetings, so, I don't know. I wouldn't mind doing more work, but they have to call me for that.
