This is NOT a rant
Thursday, 21 April 2022 00:20I am NOT complaining, at all. I do like my job, my boss, this is just an explanation (or an excuse?) of why I'm feeling so tired lately. Part of it is because the cat is hogging the Wi-Fi router and making internet slow here. No. Of course I'm kidding.
My boss is currently out gallivanting somewhere in Europe. That means anywhere between 6-8 hours behind me, depending on where he is. Which is all dandy and fine of course. I still need to present for my 9-6 job, because, gossip (oh your job must be sooooo easy! Your boss isn't even HERE! You can come and go as you like!), and a few other reasons.
Yes indeed, I can come and go as I like.... even when he was around in town, so shut that trap, people. *rolls eyes*
Anyway, as I said, I still have to make an appearance in the office in regular working hours... officially 9-6, but I tend to stretch it a bit and show up before 10, but take a significantly shorter lunch break, and leave at 6.
But then, because the boss is 6-8 hours behind me, and he hours of activities are usually AFTER lunch hours over there, I also try to make myself available to him during those times. And those, are specifically, after 6pm.
He never requested me to do that, but as an EA or a PA, I suppose it's not too much of a sacrifice.... there ARE days where I have absolutely nothing to do in the office and I have to hide away either in his office, or go to my old, abandoned office, close the door and read or just chill...
So I've been trying to stay awake until midnight. And if he's proven to be unresponsive, I'd wake up at 5 or 6am, then it's his night time, maybe just after dinner, so that he might answer me... I've been questioning myself, am I going too far? For a job that hardly seems to be rewarding?
But I'm a big softie at heart as well. I've been keeping that up for around 2 weeks, almost 3... so I've been feeling tired. Today, he's called during my dinner... I was almost done anyway, so I picked it up and he explained what his next few days would be like. Then he does an off-hand roundabout praise for me "dunno, the old PA didn't ever follow up after the fact... you do a much better job, make sure to keep that *thing that he asked me to do* up to date"
Pleasantly surprised and currently feeling chuffed, I feel like I'm doing the right thing...
It is midnight, and my time tonight is up. Then it's up early tomorrow morning to check for messages.
