Friday, 27 May 2022 12:041. Do you buy and use canned food?
Mostly dog and cat food... as for human food, we usually only get those canned bread spread pate and canned sardines. About canned sardines or fish though... Macau having been a colony of Portugal, the go-to brand is Porthos. I was surprised to find out that the brand is so popular in Macau or China that, even for the cans bought in Portugal, the Chinese name is there! Or, it could be industrialization and they're actually just made in China but slapped with the Porthos brand. Whatever.
2. What is your favourite canned food?
I don't mind canned food, but I don't think I have a favourite. But if I absolutely have to answer something, then let's say luncheon meat? What's the go-to brand? Spam?
3. Do you like some canned food better than the fresh or dried version of it?
I'm not really a fan of canned food. Like I said, I don't mind it, and I will eat it if there is nothing else, but I really don't like it enough to have an opinion on that.
4. Do you have a can that just sits at the back of the cupboard? has anything weird happened to it? or do you still plan on using it in the future?
Oh, my family is a pro at expired stuff. Just the other day Mom found something that was expired since 2011. As my Dad (a chef) says, look well, it doesn't say "expire by", it says "best before", and if it's past the "best before" date, then it's good.
Even as the daughter, I always go "WTF?" when he says that.
And yes, it's been known they will continue and use some expired stuff.
5. What is the weirdest thing you have seen canned?
I don't go out and look for canned stuff.... so I don't think I've seen anything weird being canned. I have however, found it weird that Porthos canned sardines are being sold in the staff corridor vending machine. I'm used to vending machines selling bottled/canned drinks only, so seeing a canned sardine was a novelty. (Of course, I should know better, knowing that in Japan you can buy anything imaginable from vending machines....)
