Money Matters (2)
Monday, 29 August 2022 15:37Ugh... follow up of the money issue I mentioned, but now it's a bit more on being friends with me.
Am I too good a friend? I really wonder.
When I found out about the paper cash notes going out of circulation by 30 Sept, the first thing I did, and I mean, the VERY FIRST THING I DID was get in touch with my friend that last went to the UK with me. I knew she was holding onto the GBP for "the next time we go to UK" and she knew I was holding onto the GBP for the same reasons.
And she says...
"oh, I found out about that and I sold them off last week. Daughter of a friend's auntie is going to the UK to study. And I sold it cheap *teardrop with a smile emoji* "
I mean... sure, it's my own fault that I don't check on the currency in circulation and all that. But see, my gut reaction was to reach out to my friend. I'd have thought she would have done the same for me. Guess I've been expecting too much from my friend. It's not the first time she's, I can't say "done this to me", but it's more like, "not taking friends into account." Maybe keeping a distance is the way to go.
I did a bit of researching and found out that The Bank of England will always exchange old banknotes, even after the circulation period so I'm feeling less tense than this morning. Granted, I don't know if they do normal walk-in exchanges, or cash-to-cash, or whatnot. And probably, if I ever do decide to do it that way, I might have to budget in a whole morning just for that task (wait in line, all that jazz)
