Shopping, Conspiracy, Food!
Saturday, 19 November 2022 10:34I was just on Facebook commenting on something and saying "I live in a part of the world where DST and Black Friday sales are not a thing." But I might not have been entirely correct. Well, still, in Macau, they're not a thing. The nearest thing we have to a Black Friday sale is the "singles day" 11-November (11.11). Because being single is such a sad thing you need retail therapy to recuperate from it *rolls eyes*. Even so, 11.11 isn't really a thing in Macau physically. Where is 11.11 going strong? Taobao (Aliexpress I guess). I jumped on the bandwagon to get something I needed and something I didn't really need but wanted to try out.
Managed to score a very good pair of work slacks. I guess I was over-conservative and bought a size too large. It fits a bit loosely. But I'll still keep it and get another pair a size down. This is what I don't like with online shopping. Returns are a hassle, so I'll just keep them for in case I gain weight again, or if the next pair fits me I can pass the larger pair to my Sis.
Anyway, so I was putting away my shopping and then Menina has her old-age slow-mo zoomies and rolls around in bed and gets all tangled in the shopping bag LOL... (it's a cloth shopping bag, very loose handles, there is no danger of her choking)
Another thing I wanted to try were these water color palettes. I have sharp colors, I have shiney colors, I don't have these pastel-ish palette... these are small enough and cheap enough for a try-out before I actually go get the real thing (which I think I'll never get around to, so this size should last me a long time!) The boxes were smaller than I expected though.
And my weekly dose of sarcasm! Earlier this week, there was another confirmed case very near my home. A couple months ago, there was one or two confirmed case in the Northern area (北區) of Macau. Historically that is the "poor" area of Macau, but in reality now it's actually got better city planning, streets are straight, buildings are in blocks, etc... So when there were confirmed cases in the Northern area, they blocked out the entire 500km surrounding it (OK, 500km surrounding is a big exaggeration... Macau peninsula is 8.5km square LOL). Anyway, what I want to say is they blocked out a good chunk of Northern Macau because of 2 or so confirmed cases... and all people living in that area had to get 3 tests in 5 days or something like that. The Lusofonia and many other events got cancelled.
That settled down and life normalized, until earlier this week there was a new confirmed case near my home. And?
Nothing happened. Why? Because the affected building sits right next to the Government Headquarters LOL. So they only cordon off the entrance to that particular building. Hey, can't inconvenience Mr. Chief Executive and his right and left hand people. Also, it's.... Grand Prix weekend! It's.... Food Fair! It's... I don't know what other exhibitions and fairs. Oh, it's World Cup (ok it's not in Macau but there are "events" where people can watch live on something like a drive-in theatre thingamajig)! Can't put the city on lockdown and lose out on the chance to make money.
So the affected building is closed off, but look how near I'm standing to the waste bin *rolls eyes* (Yellow is for the medical PPE gear and Blue is general waste). And it's not even properly cordoned off. Just those metal barriers on two sides.
My workplace coffee shop got a new sandwich on the menu and I rather like it. I guess that's some variation of an avocado toast. But really, eating that is really difficult... I just deconstruct everything and eat them piece by piece. Salad first, then take all the toppings out, eat the rye toast, then the tomato, crab, and avocado, then the fries. I should tell them to skip the fries though... but life would be boring without fries!
