Way to start the year
Sunday, 1 January 2023 21:50The title sounds ominous, but no. I didn't get covid yet. Dad's fully recovered. Sis' test finally came negative today. Mom's coughing like hacking her lungs out. In fact, I think I started the year relatively well. I completed a running challenge!
I... still tested negative, but I was worried for a moment because I woke up to a terribly sore throat, which usually is a sign of my getting sick. The funny thing is, I have no cough. It's just a sore throat. It feels like an inflammation more than anything, and just in my throat a tad to the left side, where I've forever been wondering whether I've got a fish bone stuck in there... ever since my 2002 internship in Lisbon, on a trip to Fatima we had a Bacalhau a Bras for lunch and it's kind of cemented in my mind that I swallowed a fish bone there and my throat there is permanently wounded. I do not know for a fact if it's true. I haven't seen a doctor for that.
Anyway, I finished a 20.23km run.... split in to 3 of course. I can't run over 10km yet... one day... maybe...! There was this challenge thing to run a total of 20.23km between 28-Dec up to 3-Jan, capped at 3 runs, so I had plans to run 8km each. However, today I wasn't feeling too good, so I just gave up at 6km or so.
28-December >>> good breathing, was able to run all through with only 1 break. Planned for this run, had carbs for lunch so I felt good during the entire run.
30-December >>> It was a last minute ad hoc run as I was planning to run the following day (31-December, and then 2-January) instead... but then Mom got sick, so I was thinking I might get sick soon so I decided to run on this day and move the last run to 1-January. Good breathing but as I didn't prepare well, I needed a couple breaks.
1-January >>> When I felt my sore throat this morning that I woke up, I was worried I would test positive for covid, so I immediately did a test, but it was still negative. I do have some sniffles today, and the reason I cut the run short was just because I was getting too much snot and phelgm that I needed to clear and couldn't do so if I kept running.
The route for the 3 days are practically the same, around this Sai Van Lake. I don't really like running here as other people go to this area for a smoke, and this route is not a designated running route, there are cars so the smoke from them also sucks. There's a designated running and biking route out in the island of Taipa, but I'd have to drive over there. This lakeside (man-made) area is just less than 10 minutes away from my place on foot. One lap around the lake is roughly 2.5km.
So... the few people that I know that got covid, they had a loss of appetite and were hacking their lungs out. I feel like I'm getting sick but my symptoms are just my sore throat and an insatiable hunger, LOL. Yeah, when I get sick I feel constant hunger. I guess that's my body saying I need the calories to fight the sickness. And that's why I think despite starting to get sick it's still not covid, but maybe the flu.
But hey, the Chinese Health Bureau announced that "Covid is just a type of flu" (what a 180º change of idea) and that there is nothing to fear. Yeah right thanks.
