Turtle for a night
Saturday, 8 November 2025 23:28I'll try to keep the story brief.
The building management/security guy saw a turtle trying to climb from the street to the pedestrian. He picked it up and saw my dad and gave the turtle to my dad. We had turtles before, but we really don't want to keep any more new pets. But here are some funny videos.
Also, last night was like the calmest night EVER because the cat was just staring at the turtle the whole night. (She had just pushed off a whole bottle of liquor off the cabinet a couple days ago)
I've already screened a few people that offered to adopt. I know I can't be 100% sure if they are trustworthy, but I guess, I can only cross my fingers and hope for the best. Apparently it's a Gold Coin Turtle and can be sold for a good penny.
Anyway, since I'm sharing videos, might as well send this one taken with the recent Kodak Charmera fancy schmancy thingamajig.

Date: 2025-11-11 02:48 (UTC)The Gold Coin Turtle is very likely to be someone’s pet as it’s a premium pet and also considered an endangered species. And although we are somewhat tropical-ish, winter IS indeed coming.
There are a lot of keyboard warriors being judgemental and saying “you should just keep it for yourself” or “send it to the pound” and I’ve since learned that the local municipal kennel (the pound) actually has a separate procedure for turtles. As a dog and cat owner, my knowledge of the kennel is “2 weeks not adopted and it’s dead” so I was really wary of sending the turtle there. For turtles of this nature, apparently they will keep. But, I’ve also heard from some inside sources that they don’t really have the proper facilities and set up for turtles either. So it’s a moot point.
The thing I console myself is this person that I’ve passed the turtle on to already has a couple of turtles at home, has a complete light box/warm area for them, and he was one of the few that actually said “if you want to keep it but don’t know how I can teach you how”, so it felt like he isn’t going to pawn it off.
At the end of the day, to be brutally honest, but it’ll sound callous, the lesson learnt here is “don’t help any lost animal”. I hate to have this thought, but all those comments and DMs on facebook are really depressing and soul sucking.

I've checked a WIKI page about that animal. Turns out - it is critically endangered, which adds another viewing angle to the whole picture.
